About this deal

I did notice the Katana rattles a small amount inside the Saya when fully sheathed and shaken, but online forums say this is normal and the Saya actually expands and contracts with the seasonal humidity. Due to its lighter weight compared to a bokken or a metal katana, a shinai can be wielded in a fashion that allows quicker strikes than would be practicable with a heavier sword.

Shinai should be inspected for splinters and breaks before and after use, and maintained in a manner considered most appropriate by one's style, dōjō, or sensei. This distinctive traditional Japanese samurai sword is an infinite swordcraft goldmine, never ceasing to yield rich sword-wielding experiences from the moment you first grasp the tsuka. I haven’t taken the handle off yet but have heard that they drilled through the handle and tang at same time (not great) leaving metal flash and creating almost a rivet effect making it difficult to remove the handle for replacing. Shinai slats are also made of carbon fibre, reinforced resin, or other approved alternative materials. I also heard that Paul wanted black ray skin instead of white and only wanted a SINGLE groove, instead of the double.

I was bummed about the barely visible curled tip until I just went for it one night with hand tools.

Blade has t10 tool steel, silver damascus steel, 9260 spring steel, purple blade, double edge sharp, gold printed blade and more . The shinai was developed in an effort to reduce the number of practitioners being seriously injured during practice, making a practice weapon that was less dangerous than bokutō ( 木刀), the hard wooden swords they were previously using. I like the Kashira with the bamboo stalks engraving and it is also very tightly strapped by the Makidome.Unique to traditional Japanese swordcraft, clay tempering was developed centuries ago by Edo-period smiths and is integral to the katana's longstanding, well-earned reputation as the sharpest sword on earth. The guard is pretty minimal so thrusting maneuvers might be a little dangerous if your grip slips on the handle.

To properly inspect a shinai, one first examines the area around the datotsu-bu, inspecting all sides of the shinai for splinters. But you may have to act fast as these top bamboo katana is set to become one of the most sought-after best-sellers in no time. The Saya itself is perfectly painted, almost like an expensive piano finish and not one flaw in the paint was detected. The Meguki pins are very tightly driven and protrude out just a slight bit on either side of the Tsuka. Truekatana carries many bamboo katana related products, including bamboo samurai sword, bamboo katana, bamboo katana sword.

One of the most sought-after high carbon steels in modern swordcraft, T10 alone would yield a blade with a nasty bite. It's a quality piece that should help you strike fear into the hearts of watermelons, water bottles, and bamboo stalks anywhere. Some instructors require the base ( kashira) of the handle ( tsuka) on the floor and the tip ( kissaki) leaning against the wall.Whether you are a sword collector or a martial art practitioner, if you are looking for a bamboo katana that is a lot more than just a practice piece, you have come to the right place. In kendo, the shinai is treated in the same way as a edged or bladed weapon, like an actual metal sword, and competitors are trained to think of it as a dangerous instrument if misused. The tsuka (handle) is wrapped in black silk ito to complement the gloss black saya and glossy black fittings. Or better yet, a small sample thing of some oil and a little microfiber cloth with their company logo on it. It has been handcrafted in quality materials for the most passionate who wish to treat themselves to a real collector's item.
