About this deal

Another horror manga that relies solely on its disgusting premise and makes no effort to try and carry a plot or decent characters. It lacks some of the mind-invading memorability of Ito's other more infamous images, but it's no less effective for the clear effort that's been put in and the consistency that results for the book. The charm of this story for me is how the spirit world is presented and how souls are depicted as beautiful gems (dubbed as "Paradoxical Night").

Most people take the name to mean they are from "paradise" given their origin in a glowing spirit realm and energy power, but they actually represent a "paradox"—these stones which can save humanity with their energy simultaneously destroy it by being the souls of the people who populate the world. Greed is a well-hidden message on the manga itself, opposite to the dementic and irrational nature of the manga, the message appears to be well-thought. The idea of the evils within humanity, how that might spill out as a broader result of knowing and exploring the realm of the soul, ends up contributing as well to the more 'real' feelings of fear at the heart of all the weirdness being illustrated in Black Paradox. They all have their moments and each of the characters is fleshed out and played out their roles perfectly.Ben K: Judging from the reaction within English-language fan communities when the art book was announced, demand for a translation is high! Some parts the dialogue seems a bit too overdone and boring, but since it’s a volume long piece it’s pretty easy to keep reading and finish without much boredom involved. His narrative idiosyncrasies though are what make his comics so unique - I can’t say I’ve ever read a story like Black Paradox before. Hoist by His Own Petard: It is predicted by Maruso that Suga will at first be deemed as a revolutionary figure for discovering the uses for paradonite.

It follows four people who meet for a group suicide, but their attempt to die instead makes them aware of a bizarre phenomenon that could change the world. Marusou realizes that the "Baracchi" she saw was indeed a mirror image of the one sitting with her, and that although Baracchi claims the right side of her face is disfigured, it's actually the left side. It's a bit too aside and uneven to the works that define his appeal and legacy in the manga landscape.Ito and I wanted the book to properly convey the appeal of black and white prints, so we also accentuated that. Following greed, fear, and loss of mental stability, Ito takes his writing to a whole new level with Black Paradox.
