Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. The only negative is when you fold it out to use it the metal side hinges have to be pushed down separately before using.The timber is unvarnished but smooth and well finished; mine’s become discoloured over the years from being stood on and occasionally getting wet - if I bought it again I’d probably put the effort in to varnish it before using it. I'm really sad as this is not a cheap items and I was so looking forward to having this in my kitchen. This step being made of MDF/wood-like is super strong and my partner (who is double my weight) has found it to be super secure. Have used it often since purchasing for different reasons - reaching upper cabinets, as a prop in a photo shoot, painting the tops of my window frames, as a serving table outside the door of a COVID patient, and as a side table next to sofa when we had guests… very happy with form and function of our Bekvam!

I’ve had this stool for over 6 years now, and it’s still as sturdy as it was when new, without any re-tightening of screws or anything. Great product Isha This is a superb product for someone like me who is elderly and needs a secure stepladder to access higher shelves. This step stool makes it easier to reach things highest up in cabinets ‒ and it's also nice to look at. Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled. Once assembled the two steps shift significantly when you step on them which makes them feel completely unsafe!
