I dearly wish that the actual physical 4K UHD Blu-ray discs would be given the Dolby Vision treatment. Beyond the apparent uptick in image detail and clarity, the real standout is color, contrast, and black levels thanks to a smartly applied HDR10 grading. And of course, the on-disc special features are not to be missed, including an introduction by director Ridley Scott and three filmmaker commentaries, including one by Ridley Scott himself. Those fears proved unfounded however when Denis Villeneuve took the director’s seat – arguably the greatest sci-fi director of the modern age, Villeneuve’s sequel, "Blade Runner 2049", tells an engrossing original story that still manages to capture the dream-like atmosphere of the original. And it's a marvel that Villeneuve manages to get the best acting we've seen from Harrison Ford in years, maybe even decades.

I'm going to be running this disc again and again just to soak in all of the little things I never noticed before. They’re presented as wild animals that need to be put down, yet by getting to know them just a little, you soon want them to survive. Things muddy with subsequent cuts, up to and including the Final Cut; driven by Scott’s insistence of what he wants Deckard to be, and an audience entranced by a different idea to the director's intentions. I know I already gushed about it in my review for the disc release, but I can't help myself, it's just so damn beautiful to listen to combined with the gorgeous soundtrack Vangelis crafted.Talking of which, the opening of the film is an exercise in sonic excellence, that haunting score, those subterranean bass stings, the gas detonations, the flying spinners; something to be savoured and admired. The terrific score by Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch sets the tone with low thundering bass notes that echo Vangelis' work on the first film but gives this film its own flavor. Using a mix of old-school practical effects and models with new digital effects, he created a beautiful yet horrifying landscape that echoes the world presented in the first film, but shows that humanity has stumbled further into a frightful dystopia where it rains all day, snows all night, and the sun rarely pierces the haze that lingers above Los Angeles.

This 1982 version features a detective-noir-like narration overdub by Harrison Ford, which takes some of the mystique out of proceedings, as well as a jarring "happy" ending, demanded by studio executives at the time, that was reportedly filmed after the main production and tacked on at the end.And the memory moments - both 'remembered' and 'created' makes for some of the most stunningly realised footage you'll ever see. I know I'm going to be coming back to this film over and over again in the years and decades to come. Nexus Dawn" stars Jared Leto and Benedict Wong, and shows how the Wallace mega-corporation once again begins production of a new line of replicants.
