DNA LOFT is an advanced ethylene-vinyl acetate layer combined with rubber and air pillows that is similar to Nike Air Zoom technology. When I choose a daily trainer for my shoe rotation, it has to have a plush, comfortable upper, a midsole cushioned enough for distances up to 25 kilometres and an outsole capable of lasting over 800 kilometres. Now, DNA Loft foam spans the entire midsole and delivers smooth transitions and plush cushioning with each step. The 12mm heel-to-toe offset of the Ghost is more than the other daily trainers and is the perfect shoe for beginner runners who tend to strike on their rearfoot. The Ghost 14 felt great for the first 30 miles or so, then began to cause abrasion and blood blister on my posterior heal.

I have run less than 100 kilometres in my pair and the outer lateral heel area rubber is already half as thin as the original thickness. I think Brooks went the right direction with the fabric used in the lining, as it seems to have a more locked down feeling since it doesn’t slip around on my sock. Designers stretched the softer foam all the way from heel to toe to create a cushioned, consistent transition.I’m normally in-between shoe sizes so I made the decision to go with the bigger size because Ghost uppers are so padded and plush. DNA LOFT cushioning now extends throughout the midsole for an even smoother transition from heel to toe.

The Ghost is much more versatile because its midsole isn’t as soft as the Glycerin 19’s so it’s easier to pick up the pace in the Ghost. Whenever the new version of a Ghost gets released, it’s never that exciting because you know that it will be very similar to the previous version. The Ghost 13 isn’t the softest or the most engaging shoe on the market and it doesn’t do one thing particularly well.
