About this deal

I’ve mostly been wearing the Glycerin as a protective shoe for longer weekend runs, yet for short, lunchbreak 5K loops it keeps up with a slightly faster pace. The Glycerin 19—available in both GTS (go-to-support)—is no exception and embodies Brooks’s DNA perfectly.

As a result, the Ghost 15 feels better during faster paces but not as comfortable during slow-paced runs. According to Des, the Glycerin don’t “bring anything fancy to the table because that’s your job, but it’s never going to take away from your run. It's also a touch lighter than the 17, although it's unlikely that any runner will notice the difference. I loved the jacquard stretch mesh upper which felt adaptive throughout my stride yet secure enough to prevent slippage. However, its cushioning is not particularly responsive, so it may not be the best option if you plan to run fast during your race. They felt that it provided stellar support with no compromises in comfort thanks to the padded heel collar and adequate stretch.

From a design perspective, the Glycerin 19 looks almost exactly the same as the Glycerin 18 and has very strong “dad” vibes.I wish I could say more for the midsole and ride of this trainer, however, I just am not one of those runners Brooks is looking for to wear this shoe. Pretty much, if you have ever run in Glycerins, they won’t blow your mind with new technology, but you’ll love them. It’s definitely not a bad shoe and is approaching OG status, however, the ride just didn’t do much for me.

Brooks Glycerin 18 Men’s Running Shoe includes an increase in the DNA LOFT cushioning that has been engineered to provide you with a great luxurious feel underfoot but without losing the responsiveness you require and makes every transition from heel to toe soft and smooth. Browse the range of Brooks Glycerin trainers here at Start Fitness and discover your new favourite running essential. That feel transfers perfectly to the ride, offering one of the most enjoyable shoe experiences you're likely to find during training sessions. Our testers loved the plush step-in feel provided by the Ortholite liner and agreed that the Glycerin 18 offered the perfect amount of cushioning without being so soft underfoot that responsiveness is lost.Step onto a piece of heavy duty paper, card or even a bathroom tile and look at the footprint you leave behind. The midsole softness of the Glycerin 19 has definitely been dialed up a notch compared to the Glycerin 18 but not by much. When I ran in the Glycerin 17, it was the first time my gait didn’t feel stilted in a cushioned trainer. DNA is made of a non-Newtonian compound, which means that it changes its state of matter when different amounts of pressure are applied to it. Outsole durability is also below average so it’s not a durable workhorse that can do over 1000 kilometres.
