However when we visited a neighbour for a dinner party my husband was raving about this red wine (Cabalie) and I had a sip without it having the usual effect.

I did a favour for a neighbour ,and they repaid me by giving me a bottle of cabalie,and from the very first sip I immediately fell in love with with the beautiful taste and smell.It's obviously a personal choice but so far to say that we now drink this pretty much exclusively and prefer it to our previous Italian Amarone.

Received as a gift from a client as a 'thank you' this wine is one of the highest quality reds I have ever tasted. This wine is for the mood soft smooth and very drinkable, the luxurious flavours which lingers on the pallet after the first sip, I have purchased this wine more than once and will definitely be purchasing again. It is produced by the amazing winemaker Hervé Sabardeil in a 2,000 old vineyard situated in the south of France along the Cotes Catalanes.

I can’t usually discern the flavours/notes in wine (esp red) but the blackcurrant in this were wonderful and virtually no tannin ‘after taste’ ! I was and will always be indebted to my daughter and son-in-law for the gift and introduction to this exquisite red wine. Great with bread n’cheese or drinks very well alone - meaning sans food - that is with good company! A friend visited us later in the day who drinks this and said that is what it smells and tastes like and even said it was his favourite wine. As a an aficionado of quality white wine, I was so pleasantly surprised by this fabulous 'easy to drink; French Red, which had me instantly 'hooked' on its sweet, rich creation.

The Cabalie 2022 is velvety, soft, fruity Grenache dominant, but given added structure and complexity by the addition of the dark skinned Carignan grape and Syrah in the blend. The result is a harmonious velvety juicy dark berry fruit wine, with a slightly wild herb, spicy, mid palate complexity. would be MASSIVE with sweet ribs dripping in rib sauce, extraordinary with blood-red roast rib of beef.As an Espanophile who has always been a 'standard bearer' for Rioja I must admit to changing my allegiance to Cabalie as my new addiction . My conclusion is that this wine is a required taste but both my husband and I personally thought it was one of the worst wines we had ever drank. It isn't very often we dont eventually finish a bottle of wine, but with this, neither of us could finish a glass let alone a bottle.
