The straps take up a little bit of room, and do add weight, but I find this to be insignificant in context. To throw stuff into the back of my car, I put it into a real pack and THEN throw it into the back of the car. When I don’t want to look like a photographer or just throw a couple of bits, I wrap stuff in individual Domke wraps and chuck it all, loose, in an old canvas backpack. One of my favorite aspects of a camera cube is that it gives you the ability to turn any bag into a functional camera bag. There are a lot of photo/video cameras that have found a role as B-cameras on professional film productions or even A-cameras for amateur and independent productions.

The expanded main opening gives total visibility and access to your gear and features removable padding so you can tuck the flap away for faster access when the cubes are packed in your bag. These are extremely useful camera accessories, and we are pleased to see Peak Design expanding the size range of its camera cubes.

These cubes are particularly appealing for photographers who enjoy carrying their gear around in a bag that doesn't look like a traditional camera bag. There are a lot of shoots where I need a bit more than the bare minimum, though, which is where the Smedium camera cube comes into play.The cube wins for pulling gear from the pack “blind”, and for being truly waterproof if my flask of “camping juice” isn’t quite closed tightly. Although we love the concept of the x-small size, it would be nice if this cube had a bit more depth to fit a full-frame 24-70mm lens.
