About this deal

The Black Knight strip wasn't that bad, but seemed to go on forever even though each individual story was only a few pages long. A Captain Britain Omnibus published in 2009 reprinted every Captain Britain story from 1981-1986 plus a variety of extra material in a huge hardcover volume, and in October 2016, Captain Britain: Legacy of a Legend reprinted selected strips from 1976-1986 as a celebration of forty years of the Captain. Many of the themes of 'V for Vendetta' (1988-1989) and perhaps, Americanised, 'Watchmen' (1986-1987) are to be found in his Captain Britain work from 1982-1984. In addition to the Captains themselves, the organization has included administrators such as Merlyn, Roma, and Saturnyne. He appeared in a one-off solo strip written by Alan Moore for the small press title Mad Dog in 1986.

Around the same time the character made his first appearance in a British-made comic since the end of Knights of Pendragon when Panini Comics, who had taken over Marvel UK following the latter's mid-1990s collapse following an ill-advised rapid expansion under Neary, began producing small indigenous strips for the young reader-orientated Spectacular Spider-Man. After being tested by the Siege Perilous, Betsy and her knights forge a pathway to Krakoa, bringing an army of Krakoan mutants to fight against Merlyn and Arthur, with Betsy finally executing Merlyn and decreeing that the Corps will not be bound by any one ruler and will instead defend the multiverse on their own terms. London-born [5] Chris Claremont - at the time a rising star in the company following his successful work on the revival of X-Men - was one of the few Anglophiles on staff, [6] and was assigned to the title. Later, the Captain Britain Corps investigate universal Incursions which are causing the destruction of various realities, and the deaths of twenty Corpsmen.Alan Davis is the unifying thread here, but it is still interesting to see each new author's contributions to the CB mythos and how everything relies on previous continuity. And this point I was desperate to get to the Alan Davis stuff stuff so I must confess, I skipped the entirety of the Black Knight story which is just shy of 150 pages. All of which is to say, if you’re only interested in the 1980s Alan Moore and Alan David material, then perhaps that 2021 Panini edition is the better bet.

Saturnyne reconstitutes the shards to revive the Captaim Britain Corps, but is distraught when the new Captains Britain are variants of Betsy rather than of Brian.

He eventually attempted to retire due to dissatisfaction with the Corps, but was forced to continue his activities for a brief time by his suit even past his own death.
