A fabulous 14 year old Cardhu single malt Scotch whisky, presented as part of Diageo's 2021 Special Releases. Today, Diageo use the vast majority of the Cardhu spirit in their Johnnie Walker blends and less than a third is matured and bottled as single malt. Overall: Described as a "generous" whisky, it's a description that matches both the nose and its general easy-drinking nature. In 2004, Cardhu Pure Malt was withdrawn and replaced with Cardhu 12 Year Old single malt the following year.

Let’s be honest: it is a discreet whisky, well made, without smudges, but too heavy with mellifluous, vanilla and sugary hints. Cardhu Gold Reserve is a deliciously complex whisky, that’s approachable enough to be a crowd-pleaser. According to a BBC article, "Cardhu is a Scotch that may taste familiar because it is used in Johnnie Walker’s blended whiskies". The decision by Diageo angered both consumers and other whisky producers who were worried that the single malt image would be damaged. Spring water from Mannoch Hill started to be mixed with water from the local Lynne burn to supply the increased production of the distillery.
