It’s not immediately obvious from the instructions which way round they should go as the pictures are so small. Fever in little ones is often unexpected and always unwelcome, especially at the weekend, causing anxiety and difficulties for parents. It lets itself down slightly with the lack of colour options, and the fact that it's not the smallest when folded. And while it’s not an intended design feature, I found the thickness of the frame meant I could easily hook the baby monitor over the crib for attempting a daytime nap rather than having to affix it to a wall or nearby object, which I found really useful. The crib has 11 different height settings allowing you to safely attach it to a variety of styles and heights of bed frames.

Beside cribs manufactured since November 2020 need to adhere to recently revised safety regulations (BS EN 1130:2019). Although the mattress is firm, my baby was generally happy enough to settle and sleep in the crib when it was in the co-sleeping, ‘next to me’ configuration at night-time; however, he wouldn’t really entertain daytime naps. If you're traveling somewhere hot with your little ones, take a look at our selection of the best pram fans.

When testing travel cots, we considered size and weight limits, mattress quality, effectiveness, ease of build/fold, ease of transportation, any extra features or additions, and value the money. Overall, the cot is smaller in size than some other options, but that means it folds up smaller too. One parent tester said, “It feels secure, with the side bars locking in place, and is sturdy enough to accommodate a lively toddler. The instructions were clear, and the only thing we got stuck on was the side zippers, but that was through not following the instructions close enough!

Baby travel cots have been designed to make carrying your baby easier and safer for you and your baby. In this crib we have a sleeping option for my baby, so that he can sleep in our room for longer without needing a full size cot, which we don't have space for in our bedroom. This is a fantastic help when you are trying to transfer a sleeping baby in and out of the cot without waking them. We want to take care of you, and those you care about, with exciting new solutions designed for every need. Users loved that it was sturdy and easy to put together, but found it a bit heavy to carry — although, while the travel bag is a bit more cumbersome than its BabyBjorn equivalent, some might appreciate that it looks more like your average minimal tote bag rather than a baby-specific behemoth.deep, putting it on a par with most travel cot mattresses but perhaps not up there with the likes of the Bugaboo Stardust.

It’s compact and lightweight, meaning it can be easily moved from room to room and transported in its handy carry bag. Even if you didn’t want to use these handy extra functions, it’s a good-sized, comfortable crib to use in your bedroom until your baby is ready to go into their own room. The mattress is very firm and complies with the recommended safe sleeping guidance; when you press your hand into it there is resistance – it doesn’t sink in. It also includes a mesh canopy that protects baby from the outside world – including insects, pets and curious passers-by – while being itself constructed atom transparent, breathable mesh panels.

It’s so firm that your baby’s face wouldn’t imprint into it if they rolled onto their front, which is reassuring. Anyone with particularly narrow stairs might be better taking the bits of the crib upstairs in pieces.

If you're looking for a travel cot that will do double or even triple duty, this could be the product for you. The Red Kite Dreamer and Joie Kubbie Sleep also offer co-sleeping but, unlike these, the PopUp has a range of features that make it a really great choice for newborns. Although Chicco has other co-sleeping cribs – including the Next2Me, Next2Me Air, Next2Me Dream and Next2Me Magic – this is a completely new product.

Coming in at only 6kg, this is one of the lightest travel cots on our list, and also one of the most affordable. Trying to get them off to sleep isn’t the only thing that can prove tricky on the road - there’s also the small matter of changing to attend to. Elsewhere, the SENA Aire gives the travelling parents everything they need, including a mattress, sheets, an insect net and even cotton sheets. The mattress rates highly as well – our reviewer said it felt “firm” but that her “little one had no problem falling (and staying) asleep on it”.
