In this version, Foxy Loxy is changed from a male to a female, and from the main antagonist to a local bully. In America, however, the story had already been popularised by John Green Chandler, with the help of Sarah Josepha Hale (1788-1879), who is best-remembered for writing the rhyme ‘ Mary Had a Little Lamb’ and for campaigning to have Thanksgiving recognised as a national holiday in the United States. Chicken Little • Abby Mallard • Runt of the Littler • Fish Out of Water • Foxy Loxy • Goosey Loosey • Buck Cluck • Mayor Turkey Lurkey • Kirby • Melvin • Tina • Morkubine Porcupine • Mr. The 2005 Disney adaptation completely changes the plot (by adding aliens, whose spaceship, or parts of it, really do fall from the sky), and, in doing so, misses the moral message (or messages) of the fable: in this version, Chicken Little is right to spread mass fear among the townsfolk and is thus vindicated.

Chicken Little was originally scheduled to be released on July 1, 2005, but on December 7, 2004, its release date was pushed back to November 4, 2005, the release date originally slated for Disney/ Pixar's Cars. The song "The Sky Is Falling", from Owsley's 1999 self-titled debut album, includes the lyric: "Chicken Little had a big day today". The invasion is actually a misunderstanding, as the two aliens are looking for their lost child and attack only out of concern. None of the fowl friends had met this sly creature before, but they had heard rumors of his trickery and appetite. Throughout the story Chicken Little tells everyone about the sky and then it ends with the king pulling out the acorn from Chicken Littles tail and realizing that the sky is in fact not falling. Now, Ducky-Chucky was basking in the sun near the pond’s edge when he noticed the two chickens fast-approaching. A chicken, often named Chicken Little (though as we’ve seen, she also goes under other names in different versions of the story), is walking in the woods when she is struck by an acorn falling from one of the trees. Chicken little thinks the sky is falling and while he is on his way to tell the king, he meets a chicken, a hen, a duck, and a goose who all go with him to tell the king. Henny-Penny, Rooster-Booster, and Ducky-Chucky waddled and waddled and waddled until they met up with the brawny Goosie-Brucie floating with ease at the other end of the pond. There was a lot of repeated words that would scaffold the next page for the kids if you read it aloud.

John Greene Chandler (1815-1879), an illustrator and wood engraver from Petersham, Massachusetts, published an illustrated children's book titled The Remarkable Story of Chicken Little in 1840.In many ways, they’re worse than Chicken Little herself, because at least she had some physical ‘evidence’ (or what she took for evidence) for her claim.

In reality the story is a repetition of the Chambers narration in standard English, except that the dialect phrase "so she gaed, and she gaed, and she gaed" is retained and the cause of panic is mistranslated as "the clouds are falling".I think that young children will find this funny but at the same time reassuring: knowing that it is ok to feel scared at times. Although this story does not have a deep message to it, it is a very fun book to read to your classroom as a treat or even just to read it for fun. In this American version of the story, the characters' names are Chicken Little, Hen-Pen, Duck-Luck, Goose-Loose, and Fox-Lox; Chicken Little is frightened by a leaf falling on her tail. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary shows 1895 as the first use of the name "Chicken Little" to refer to "one who warns of or predicts calamity, especially without justification".
