Description

The Scout Leader, Gez, is a bully who likes to scare the younger members with stories about ghosts, such as the tale of the Bannister Doll. Many poorer areas lack a majority age group, which is due in part to the people in that area being constrained by circumstance rather than being able to choose where to retire, raise a family or grow up. The postcode is within the St Matthew's ward/electoral division, which is in the constituency of Preston. Since I was an adult when I moved here I wasn’t familiar with the Bannister Doll legend, but that wasn’t a problem, since the story is good enough to hold anyone’s attention. The longer you are Merely Dead, the danger grows that you will be forgotten by your living loved ones.

Cold Bath Street - Andrew James Hartley - Google Books

Soon discovering that he is not alone, Preston must stay one-step ahead of his enemies and discover the mysteries held by this new world as he tries to save his soul. This is definitely not a children's book but would be good for a book reading teenager to show how imagination can be put on the page. Our Housing Directory aims to include all housing schemes /developments in the UK that are intended for older people. In general, inner-city areas show high concentrations of people aged 18-30, suburbs show larger numbers of small children and adults aged 30-50, and rural and small towns are more popular with older workers and retirees. It’s a very original kind of ghost story, seen from the POV of both the ghosts and the living, and I really recommend it!

An engrossing page turner, Cold Bath Street delivers plenty of twists and turns as it builds towards the darkly gripping finale. UCLan Associate Professor of Publishing and Head of the Publishing House Debbie Williams said: “We are overjoyed to be nominated. I must admit it was the title and cover that first drew me to this book, with promises of supernatural chills and atmospheric writing - and I wasn’t disappointed.

Not only is the book set in Preston, author AJ Hartley grew up in Ribbleton, and it was published by UCLan Publishing, the only student-led, student-run publishing house in the world. My Preston teenage years were in the sixties and the descriptions in this book brought it all back to mind.

Review: Cold Bath Street is a perfect Preston ghost story

Smart, fearless and determined, Hartley succeeds in writing a likable, realistic female lead as well as the sort of character you'd want in your corner in trying times. Northern Gas Networks said traffic lights will be manned seven days a week between 7am and 7pm “to ensure a smooth flow of traffic”.AJ Hartley set this book in his hometown, and uses the setting, including the local legends and stories to full advantage. Our HousingCare PLUS and PREMIUM subscription services offer additional branding, links to your own site, ‘vacancy / availability ads’ and much more. I really enjoyed how this book panned out, with Preston being a really interesting character to follow and the time setting (not in the present day) made the book feel a lot more personal as Hartley draws on his previous experiences of the city, rather than how it is now. Health in the UK is strongly tied to age as you would expect, but the affluence of a neighbourhood also has strong influence, with deprived areas often showing poorer standards of health. As Preston explores this new world he realises that he is dead and the thing that killed him is hunting him down.
