Description

It's divided into various sections of bad, so on the one hand you have works of taxidermy with creepy eyes, and on the other, you have anthropomorphized animals that aren't "bad" so much as they look like escapees from a Walter Potter museum. I’ve always thought that becoming worm food is the worst thing that could happen to my body after I die – but I’ve discovered that if I were to fall into a taxidermist’s hands the fate would be much worse. It would be great,” Su says, when the sad day arrives, for her boyfriend to arrange something similar. Visit her apartment today and you’ll see a two-headed rabbit, a squirrel holding a gun, a fox that is itself wearing a fox stole and, yes, a mounted deer head.

On May 1st, 2011, the art and design blog TrendHunter [9] published an article about the Crappy Taxidermy blog. Additionally, for readers who are curious about how to go about stuffing and mounting dead animals, the last chapter of the book will feature a DIY tutorial on how to stuff a mouse.Of course, despite Su’s carefree attitude toward Nish’s Twitter feed, it might ultimately come to blows when the publishers get involved with marketing the book. Whether you choose to laugh or cringe at these spectacularly bad attempts at taxidermy, you won’t be able to tear your eyes away from the curiosities inside. This book is exactly what it purports to be: it's a collection of incredibly bad taxidermy that is somehow both endearing, horrifying, and sad, all at once.

My personal favorites were the frog kicking back with a pint (Australia) and the inflated yellow horse that someone inexplicably turned into a ball (China). Mostly pictures, all of them hilarious, it's the kind of book you'd open up and show everyone so you could have a good laugh. Somehow – Su still does not know how – the internet at large quickly discovered her collection, and she has been adding photographs herself, and taking contributions from others, ever since. For instance, instead of being placed in a coffin for her wake, Miriam Burbank, a New Orleans woman who died this year, was sitting up at a table with a beer and a cigarette. Nish says, “People send me pictures of creatures they have seen and all I do is post them on my Twitter with a hilarious caption. It's like trying to read F U Penguin without the snarky insults - just pictures with little to no meaning nor intrigue. Kat, I think your mom should be proud, even if it is not quite the book she thought you would publish!

It's interesting that humans have this hobby of creating something that looks alive but is actually dead. Friends and family found our relationship to be a bit strange, but it was only because they couldn’t appreciate what it was like for me to FINALLY have a fellow book lover in the house. On August 10th, 2009, a Facebook [4] page titled “Crappy Taxidermy” was created with images taken from the Crappy Taxidermy Tumblr blog. In the meantime, Su maintains her day job as an active-wear designer, but says she’s actually going to have to try her hand at taxidermy. On April 3rd, the publishing company Cassell Illustrated announced in a press release [12] that a book based on the Crappy Taxidermy Tumblr blog was scheduled for release in Autumn 2014.So, although I’m sort of weirded out by this practice (and, hey, to each their own) I can absolutely appreciate bad taxidermy.

Crap Taxidermy makes the promise of an entertaining and comedic read concerning distasteful and terribly positioned taxidermist “art”.The chapter explaining how to taxidermy your own mouse was particularly fascinating, but I don't think I'll be giving it a go myself! Apparently This Matters" Is Jarrett Bellini's weekly (and somewhat random) look at social-media trends. But we do understand that Nish started the Twitter account only about a month ago, and was inspired by something that, really, all of us should get to see at some point in our lives.
