SO much to discuss so I hope that you will tell me what you thought, what your theories and questions are, and what you noticed that I missed. The present timeline is at least tolerable because things are happening (albeit slowly and feebly), but it's such a small part of the whole book. Eccentric at best, she dresses only in pink and purple, has a wall of 80 clocks she has collected-one for every year of her life-and has her guests punch in on a time clock. I loved seeing the plot unfold and take drastic twists and turns and I also really enjoyed reading about the characters, their lies, their secrets and the ultimate reveal at the end which I really did not see coming. She has also included in the book’s dedication, one to Diggi, her pet dog and NO HARM comes to Poppins, the elderly old sheepdog, in this story.

Daisy Darker Book Club Discussion - The Mom of the Year Daisy Darker Book Club Discussion - The Mom of the Year

I love the symbolism that for it to be truly refined and beautiful, it takes so much tumbling and so much time. I find it impossible to stop scrutinizing the mechanics and relax and enjoy them like I used to—unless they’re written by Alice Feeney. Although her heart stopped, Daisy could hear Conor admit he had not passed his driving test and took the car without his father’s permission. My family haven’t all been in the same place at the same time for over a decade, not even for my sister’s wedding, but when Nana invited them to Seaglass one last time, they all agreed to come. Fans of Agatha Christie’s classic And Then There Were None will savor this, but Feeney makes it so much more than a witty homage.

As the evening proceeds, Nana Darker gathers the family together, and announces the reading of her last will and testament. It’s easy to sympathize with Daisy and her longing to have an affectionate family, and also pity her for being stuck with these people .

Daisy Darker - Jen Ryland Reviews Review of Daisy Darker - Jen Ryland Reviews

As a voracious reader, I’ve never felt bound to any one genre of publishing, though crime fiction certainly has primacy in my heart. In fact, it may be because of this that she has chosen this birthday to gather her entire family, including her son, Frank, ex-daughter in law, Nancy, three granddaughters, Rose, Lily and Daisy, one great-granddaughter, Trixie and a man named Connor, who has been a sort of unofficial member of the Darker family for years, to air some things. Even if you guess it or suspect it, there’s still so much deliciousness to enjoy in her clever, stylish, and utterly gripping novels. Of course, Alice Feeney has her own very distinctive style-using lots of clever metaphors such as “Secrets are like unpaid debts; they pile up and too much interest is best avoided. She’s alive, but there’s dried blood between her toes and Rose suggests someone injected her with insulin. Rose says “I can see you breathing” to someone in the hallway and then she falls down in a pool of blood. As they released Daisy, her heart restarted, and she opened her eyes, but it was too late to save her. Let’s not forget charming BBC correspondent Connor: living under the protective wings of Nana since he was a small child who has been abused by his own father. Told from the first-person perspective of granddaughter Daisy Darker, the narrative charts the murder of her family members while trapped on the island.
