The plot is relatively linear, but with sub-branches and tendrils to keep track of, it suits reading in larger sections. For example, as Decker and White diligently investigate the judge and bodyguard’s murders, interview people of interest, and convert clues into information, the underlying tension builds from a slow boil to a fulfilling and pleasing outcome. What follows is a complex web of murder, lies, deception, corruption and blackmail and cover-ups of crimes that date back decades. They were strong, independent female characters that had a great influence on Decker’s slow growth and social acclimation. Thin lips, green flinty eyes, slender dark eyebrows atop them, a sharp-edged nose, high cheekbones, jutting chin—the woman was all sharp edges.He put his suitcase down inside the door of his apartment, and tore open the letter with his thick finger.
