About this deal

Having made his name as “the poet laureate of Twitter” – a dubious honorific – he published an excellent debut collection in 2016, You Took The Last Bus Home, which showcased his puckish wit, typographical twists and genius for wordplay.

DIARY OF A SOMEBODY at Seven Dials Playhouse Cast Announced For DIARY OF A SOMEBODY at Seven Dials Playhouse

You'll find our theatre news, theatre reviews and theatre interviews are written from an audience point of view. The narrator Brian is a total nerd, he doesn't have a clue about anything, but he is a genius at playing with words. So here comes Brian Bilston, using his gift of turning the mundane, the everyday into a diary entry and/or a poem, using the power of wit and the ability to mine the language for puns and other delights. The character of Brian Bilston (it was unnecessary for him to use his own nom de plume) was so insufferable, not just in the little amusing ways I found relatable, but in huge sympathy-sapping ways that meant you never rooted for his redemption.

But as the months go by Brian steadily finds his own voice and, though the plot may be slight and over-extended, this fun, charming novel is a fine showcase for Bilston’s irrepressible creativity. A great comic novel is distinguished by something above and beyond the honourable aim to tweak the funny bone; consider, for instance, the bravura inventiveness and energy of Martin Amis’s Money. However, the majority of the play revolves around the relationship between Joe Orton and Kennith Halliwell, played by Trefor Lavins and Paul Marten respectively.

In 2012 he recorded a special Freedom Pass episode with Terry Waite, [10] and in 2013 he and Martin Jarvis journeyed back to their childhood homes in Grey Shorts and Sandals. Whilst that goes by the wayside some days, we are still treated to many poems of the very clever and mostly rhyming variety that I love. But there is an obstacle to his happiness in the form of Toby Salt, his arch nemesis in the Poetry Group and rival suitor to Liz, Brian’s new poetic inspiration. Seething, and increasingly unhinged, Osmand’s portrayal was a fascinating analysis of a man consumed by resentment and a failure to thrive. There's the 1989 original production of the play, when many of Orton's transgressions had been legalised, but prevailing attitudes were probably best summed up by Tom Robinson's line in 'Glad To Be Gay' - "The buggers are legal now, what more are they after?

You can donate to the charity of your choice, but if you're looking for inspiration, there are three charities we really like. He finds it difficult in his depressed state to engage with his teenage son Dylan who visits once a week. A host of fundraising events, including Bucket Collections, Late Night Cabarets, West End Eurovision, West End Bares and A West End Christmas continue to raise funds for projects both in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa.
