About this deal

The compilation throws up a few notable collaborations: Aldous Harding and John Parish bring a dark, driving energy to Three Hours. Over the last few months he has disarmed packed rooms of rowdy concert goers, leaving them silent as they hold fast to every syllable sung. The theme of being left behind is one that really resonated with me, as someone who’s chosen to carve out a career in the arts. Opening vocal harmonies are accompanied by what seems like a cello, its phrasing similar to that of her French pop hits.

New Nick Drake Tribute Album Features Liz Phair, Feist

Over its 40 years in business, PIAS has grown to be one of the largest independently-owned music groups in the world, carving out its own in-house recorded music division PIAS [Recordings]. asks Polly Jean Harvey in A Child’s Question, July, the penultimate track on her 10th album I Inside the Old Year Dying. Aside from its trivial purpose as a tribute album, in a more sentimental fashion, it is telling of the difference a man and his guitar can make. Each track is an example of a fellow artist adopting Nick’s art as if it was their own, submitting to the song, and the results prove to me that talent can so often win out over mere skill or ‘personality’. I think all but two or maybe three of the songs on this album are very good, some verging on brilliant. If you love cover songs, we hope you will consider supporting us there with a small monthly subscription. Here’s what this album isn’t: easily decipherable, one to hum along to in the Tesco aisles, or a family-friendly listen that’ll absorb the kids in the back of the car as you set off down the A303 on your summer holidays. Nick Drake was not that concerned with promoting himself as an artist but I think he would have been overjoyed to hear his art promoted by so many vibrant and talented artists such as the ones we approached. It feels right because the singer is deserving of more recognition than he’s had so far outside of the indie-folk or progressive-folk world, having never really fit neatly into the “folk singer” box.

Indeed this latter scenario would be especially ill-advised, unless said car journey formed the opening scene of a self-made Wicker Man-style folk horror opus. The first volume dropped in September last year; together, the 13-part record confirms the promise of that miraculous Glastonbury introduction.Nick Drake‘s discography proved to be a goldmine for the forthcoming album The Endless Coloured Ways, a collection of 32 of the musician’s most essential catalog entries reimagined by various artists. Surely this is all any musician wants for their music – for it to endure, evolve, travel and be loved for decades to come. and finally Black Eyed Dog by Self Esteem and Craig Armstrong – this is brilliantly atmospheric and clean sounding, which is great because Nicks original is really quite a muddy recording. These tracks were to be broken down, stripped for their parts, then reconstructed in whatever way we saw fit. Entirely different, but nonetheless compelling, is Emeli Sandé’s smooth and funky version of One Of These Things First.
