About this deal

If players are in close combat, they can't revert back to ranged, so choosing the optimum moment to close the distance is a tactical choice.

Once you're familiar with the rules, which takes a single game, you can complete a mission in around 45 - 60 mins, which gives plenty of time to try again. However, the time encounters do have the chance to gain powerful new artefacts from those time periods such as a legionary scutum. Players then each pick a character, who's only real mechanical difference is the amount of symbols on their character dice from the game's 3 stats (Might, Wisdom and Cunning). When you’re discussing the challenges between you and weighing up your chances of success, it’s easy to fall into the game. Read the italic story text aloud to set the scene, then follow the instructions to complete the chapter.

What is beyond doubt is the mutagen’s gruesome power to distort the bodies of the afflicted – twisting bone and tearing flesh to form new limbs and appendages, endowing these “mutes” with incredible might, cunning, and even wisdom. When the game is over, read the corresponding epilogue card aloud (Victory or Defeat) to bring the story to an end.

But it doesn’t stop the illustration of a space prison guard dropping a cigarette from their gawping mouth feel any less charming in an old-school kind of way. The new point always goes one vertical line to the right of your current one, and then moves up or down by as many horizontal lines as the number of HP you are gaining or losing. Now, publisher Themeborn is back with their second installment, Escape the Dark Sector, a similar game with a sci-fi theme.Place chapter dice in a row beneath the current chapter card, matching what is shown at the bottom of the card. But the inclusion of ranged combat makes encounters with enemies feel much more engaging because the players have to discuss strategy beyond just who is going to rest and who is going to attack. Like that of its predecessor, the artwork and graphic design throughout Sector is presented in a striking, stark, monochrome. to 4 players will make their way through a series of chapter cards, turning them over one at a time to uncover traps, monsters, moments of respite and more on their way to the final boss and the way out.

This means the drone remains available for use the following round by any crewmember, and for either its Basic or Advanced function. As soon as you get to your first combat in Dark Sector you will realise that you have a lot more agency in this game than you did in Dark Castle. For example, if your inventory is full and new item cards are drawn, you may use them immediately if applicable.Gameplay involves turning over the cards of the mission deck one at a time and completing the challenges revealed.

There is a great feeling of progression as you work your way towards the boss, and the chapter cards just feel a bit more interesting than in the previous game.Explore this eclectic and terrifying sprawl of dive-bars, laboratories, and alien hives as your adventure gathers speed.
