Evie and the Animals by Matt Haig from Canongate

Vorbește despre importanța de a fi tu însuți, grija pe care trebuie să o avem fața de planetă și bunătatea cu care trebuie să tratam orice ființă.The authors value the human-animal experience in treatment and repeatedly show how the application of a relational psychoanalytic lens to the patient-therapist-animal triad can enhance the therapeutic process in ways that encourage progressive communication, understanding of the patient and the relaxing of defences, leading to the symbolising of relational capacity, therapeutic breakthrough and intrapsychic change. During this time she speaks to various animals and ends up saving a sloth who was about to be killed by dumb humans burning the forest. I didn’t give it five stars because it was a little scary when Mortimer J Mortimer said ‘join me or you will get a bite from my snake’. I read this book with my own children and without fail they begged for just one more chapter each time! Een van de boodschappen van het verhaal is dat je jezelf moet durven te zijn en dat is in sommige situaties nog best lastig.

Evie and the Animals Trailer - Canongate Evie and the Animals Trailer - Canongate

It talks to children about the importance of kindness in a cruel world, about how social media and the internet is great until it's not, about how your true friends are almost always the unexpected ones.As a child I would have loved to have had this special skill as I always had animals around me, it would have come in handy! These novels destabilise assumptions about the nature of pain and vulnerability, the burden of literary inheritance, the challenge of writing the Anthropocene, and the relation between text and image. The story would also be great for primary reading /intervention groups due to the topics that are raised. The universally appealing premise of being able to talk to the animals has drawn comparison with Hugh Lofting’s Dr Doolittle from a Century ago. Das funktioniert so lange gut, bis alles durch eine riskante Begegnung mit einem Löwen aus dem Ruder läuft.
