For those who love to swim, all of the Fenix 6 models offer a higher 10 ATM (up to 100 meters) water rating compared to the 5ATM (up to 50 meters) water rating on the 945. The Fenix 6 range was released in August 2019, so expect there to be some juicy discounts on this top of the range wrist piece in the pre-Christmas sales.
It's also going to be a good pick for runners who are after more metrics and insights and want a longer battery life you get over watches like the Forerunner 245 and 645 that sit below it. Whatever’s thrown at it, expect it to handle with ease and with great accuracy, no matter where you are and what you’re doing.

It was a great way of learning about what the watch could do and working out what would work best for me. Garmin offers a range of different options whether you want something less sporty or it's easier to dress up the Fenix with a smarter band to mask some of its sporty form factors.For instance, you can now fit eight activity measurements of your choice around the edges of the circular watch face screen instead of six, thanks to the slightly larger screen real estate. But after many years of very active service and ever improving technology it was starting to look a bit dated. Overall, it still looks quite bulky when compared to most other smartwatches on the market, and even other Garmin ranges like the Vivoactive or Forerunner series.

The sixth edition comes in what seems like a million different editions depending on what you’re looking for in a watch. Although it'd now three years old, the Fenix 6 lineup has aged gracefully, and are still powerful multi-sports watches. Garmin reckons that, in optimal sunlight conditions, you can add an extra three days for regular usage, or an extra six hours if you use GPS - although we’re not sold on the device (more thoughts on that at the bottom of this section). The resolutions for both series are 240 x 240 pixels for 42mm models, 260 x 260 pixels for 47mm models, and 280 x 280 pixels for 52mm models.The build quality, for instance, is just superb and for this reason, we can't imagine it ever breaking. Running dynamics, vertical oscillation and ratio, ground contact time and balance, real time stride length, lactate threshold. If using GPS continuously, that plummets down to 36 hours, or 72 hours when set to max battery GPS mode. It might be a different proposition compared to the Fenix 6X, which does give you more space for stats and maps, but from a visibility perspective, it doesn't feel like a dramatic difference.
