About this deal

The only power it requires is that of the 48v phantom power switch on your mixer, audio interface, or external phantom power unit. While there is no doubt that external factors also play a part in the frequency response (the microphone, speaker, room acoustics, etc) the differences between the two when used in the same test conditions still serves as a good indication of signal coloration. In particular, it has cutting-edge JFET circuitry, which is carefully selected to preserve the natural sound of the mic and help protect the tone.

In situations with low-output mics and quiet sources, and where the available mic preamp may lack sufficient gain, the DM1 boosts the signal level very efficiently and cleanly, and may well result in a better overall noise performance into the bargain. The Fethead’s appearance is different to the CL-1 in that it’s very streamlined and not much thicker than an XLR connector. It can also be used to help pick up particularly quiet sources (where a regular preamp might also add unwanted noise at high gain settings) and amplify the signal to a usable level while retaining a clear sound. In case you are still unsure of just what is on offer with each product, we have compiled the most important specs into two convenient lists for you to come to compare further. Regardless of what type of microphone you’re working with, a Cloudlifter can be added at any point in your setup to help cut down on noise while raising your noise floor. The scarlet all-metal casing houses class-A FETs with gold-plated XLR connectors that yield a neutral and balanced sound. This will start your application with Klarna Retail Finance or V12 Retail Finance, our finance partners, and completing this form should take approximately 10 minutes. I personally have a British built Alice Mic-Pak (shown above) which provides a LOT of low noise gain. No more cranking your mic preamp and adding unwanted noise to get your microphone to an acceptable volume.

Constructed mainly of surface-mount components, the DM1 is designed to add a fixed 28dB of gain, using a very low-noise Class‑A design, and on paper the specifications look very impressive (more on that below), but no distortion figure is quoted.I’ve covered the nuts and bolts of it in my previous post: What Does a Cloudlifter Do (and do you need one? sE Electronic Dynamite DM-1 is powerful, compact, and can comfortably handle low-output mics for podcasting and recording. We will be helping you decide which is best for you by comparing: design, unique features, and testing how both hold up in practical application. Despite not being a traditional preamp, Cloudlifters have become a recognizable name and device for a reason.
