About this deal

Once the doors have been sanded, they can be re-finished with either a wood oil or varnish that contains UV filters or stabilisers. We’d suggest you apply Osmo Wood Protector (4006) first and then follow it up with Osmo Polyx Oil (3062), although you’ll need to keep on top of maintenance with this, otherwise water rings are inevitable unfortunately.

Ronseal Interior Varnish Satin French Oak - 250ml | Homebase

You could consider a product such as the Osmo Country Colour this is a penetrating oil that gives an opaque paint like look and may be better matched to an oiled finish on the inside. If you do this before application of the preserver, it will not stop or prevent the tannins from coming out, and this will mostly occur with damp, cooler weather, but it will help reduce initial leaching. We recommend lightly rubbing the surface down between coats with 320 grit abrasive paper or Ultra Fine Steel Wool (0000) to remove any blemishes. If the wood is open grained and a mirror like finish is required the grain should be filled using a suitable grain filler. French Polishing is a finishing technique process for wood that leaves a very high gloss surface with a deep colour and reflective properties. Overnight it has rained and the plaque now has two slight trickle stains down its surface which I presume has been caused by tannin release from the oak.

Everyone Should Know About Finishing Oak What Everyone Should Know About Finishing Oak

I hope that helps and if you need any further advice please do not hesitate to get in touch via our contact us page.Any horizontal details and the lower part of the door are always the areas to be effected first and so keeping an eye on these areas will let you know when maintenance and cleaning is needed. Before you apply your final coat (whether that’s the second or third), sand down the surface and wipe the dust off with a cloth. These 2 products will better retain the natural, freshly stripped or sanded look rather than darkening and enhancing the wood grain. Would you please suggest what could be done to protect the table in the future considering we want it as close to natural as possible.
