Description

The GH5 II comes with a range of Photo Style picture profiles (the effects of which can also be applied to videos), including Standard, Vivid, Flat, Monochrome and V-Log L, and you can create up to four custom preset profiles if you want more control. Clearly, a lot has gone on inside, with the GH5 II’s faster processor, live streaming, pre-installed V-Log L, enhanced frame rate/bit depth combinations and more, but on the outside it’s almost identical to the existing GH5.

Looking for an unsurpassed combination for speed, brightness, mobility, rugged build quality and superior optical performance? The GH5 was the vanguard of a new generation of hybrid stills/video cameras and its 4K 60p recording capability was stellar then and pretty stellar now. The GH5’s sensitivity range improves on the GH4’s by a stop at the bottom end of the range, running from ISO100-25,600 compared to 200-25,600 on the GH4. There are a LOT of video permutations to get your head around, however, and some features are unavailable unless you’ve selected something else first, e. Some may be disappointed that the GH5 II has the same sensor as its predecessor, but there have been some changes. It also records at higher quality levels than those cameras – not in terms of resolution, but colour depth and compression. The 20MP Micro Four Thirds sensor does place its own limits on the resolution and the high ISO performance, but our lab tests repeatedly show that, small as they are, these MFT sensors hold their own very well against larger APS-C sensors. Here are the top recommended lenses for Panasonic GH5 mirrorless camera, including leading prime and zoom options from wide-angle to telephoto. It goes to show that even with a slightly lower megapixel count and a significantly smaller physical sensor area, the four-thirds sensor design is still able to produce extremely sharp images straight out of the camera. For videographers, this Dual Native ISO feature is designed to appease those reluctant to accept the Micro Four Thirds format and its perceived weakness at high ISO settings – and this seems like a good time to take a closer look at this camera’s video features, and what makes them so special.

However, it would have been nice to have seen this extended even further, especially at the higher end of the range, where the GH5 loses out to rivals like the Nikon D500 and Sony Alpha A7S II. Ever since its launch in 2017, the Lumix GH5 has been a highly-regarded hybrid stills and 4K video camera, with 4K specs that were ahead of its time and still stack up pretty well today. This is a feature taken from Panasonic’s professional video camera range, where the sensor has dual circuits that can switch to a higher native sensitivity before the ‘gain’ (light amplifying) processing occurs. Based on the CIPA standard [Yaw/Pitch direction: focusing distance f=50-140mm (35mm film camera equivalent f=100-280mm), when H-FS14140 is used. It can capture 4K/60p footage with no crop, 10-bit 4:2:2 internal recording, optional V-LogL support, a waveform monitor, adjustable luminance levels and much more.
