It makes Little Glow wish to be bigger, until the realisation comes that small moments and the smallest lights are just as important as big ones.

She is also struggling with something very unique, her sister and her friends are deteriorating around her, literally falling apart. The Young women at these plants changed things for everyone in the work force with work safety and compensations if you get hurt on the job, and while most of them never saw anything. Three of Bryant’s fictional characters – Liza, Lydia, and Charlotte Grayson – work at the factory and while I absolutely loved the level of detail worked into their experiences, I couldn’t help feeling the historic elements of Bryant’s book played second fiddle to the modern mystery. This format for storing telling works very well and Bryant uses it to her advantage to connect us, as the reader, to her current day character and subsequently back to our Radium Girls.She's had to forfeit college to save her family, and by doing so, she's managed to alienate herself from everyone who loves her.

Throughout the book they thought each other had something against the other, but it turns out they both wanted to be friends again and quite fighting. The story alternates between Julie's story in the present and the story behind the paintings that is set in the past. When you're no longer creating every detail and the events or type of events that happen are based on real people then the suffering, pains and emotions felt by the characters in the story are more difficult to take.Beautifully blending together historical accuracy and two girls's coming-of-ages, Glow was a book I easily devoured in one extra-long sitting. She has recently graduated high school, but her college plans have been put on hold due to her mother’s financial struggles.

With simple rhyme and colourful artwork, this picture book celebrates every bit of the human body and reminds us that each and every body is different.
