About this deal

Gipe did this because he needed to find a way to expand a movie where we know nothing about the antagonists' backstory. For this book, author did a great job creating detailed descriptions, which made the story feel less of a "novelization" and more like a full-fledged horror novel. A novel expanding on the film's story couldn't just have a speechless, emotionless villain simply standing there. The author does a wonderful presenting a remorseless and relentless Michael Myers obsessed with an evil spirit. His adolescent version is shown conversing with his mother, grandmother and Sam Loomis and then narrating the events of the fateful day to a criminal court later on, in the first four chapters.

Red pulled a can of soup and his saucepan from the table, lit a makeshift stove made from spare wood and tinder, and began to simmer a pot of Campbell’s New England Clam Chowder. Whether that is because of the limits of the source material, or whether that is because of the creative decisions that were made, I don't want to deliver judgment on; there are, after all, only so many stories you can tell about a murderous devil incarnate who goes around killing people with his bare hands. Writing scenes from his perspective is especially challenging since, in a very real way, he doesn’t have a perspective. The shape will be hit repeatedly with a vehicle, Jamie will touch his hand and tell him he is forgiven and Michael will be blown away with bullets and dynamite and disappear down a shaft. It almost makes Michael a sympathetic character as a kid who is changed against his will and can't help himself. In the depths of his timeless existence, he knew that the coming year would bear witness to his resurgence, and on that fateful day, he would claim her. We dive headfirst into the four years between the bloodbath ending of KILLS and the reappearance of Michael in ENDS. I also found Laurie to be characterized well, though I wouldn’t have minded if she’d gotten more focus.

Halloween: The Official Movie Novelization - Goodreads

What impresses is the prism of variations taken from other tomes of the series (except for the non-Myers movie, the grotesque HIII--but including, surprisingly, some Rob Zombie staples).Back then, I'd read the books as soon as they came out--or as soon as I noticed them on the shelf at Walden Books--eager for the story, not even minding that I'd know the whole thing by the time the movie was released. When he finally does get back home, Laurie isn't there, so he murders the couple living there and waits. It has so, so many great ideas that never quite get expanded and elaborated upon in the way they deserve to be. In the clamor, no one heard the explosion of wind from her lungs, the gurgle of blood, the whimper, or saw the look of dreadful recognition as the light faded from her eyes - except for Enda. Perhaps my gushing praise in somewhat rose-tinted due to the fact it’s been around 12-18 months since I watched the film, however I don’t necessarily believe this to be the case.

Chapter 10 reveals that he shot a couple to death at a harvest dance on Halloween 1898 or 1899, and before he was hanged for the murders identified his victims by names he'd heard in his dreams.

However, the stillness of the shack was abruptly shattered by a loud rustling sound emanating from beyond its worn-out walls.
