About this deal

The mid/upper bass gives them a bit more warmth, to speak of absolute neutrality, but this makes the mids more musical and gives them a natural sounding timbre. With its neutral lower midrange and relatively light note weight, its 5k-ishHz boost gets a little intense and harsh at times. If you’re wondering whether these are for you, keep in mind that the selling point of the Sennheiser HD 6XX is the audio quality and almost nothing else.

Leading transients are decent in that I never really felt like the KSC75 sounds “blunted” or lacking definition, but it’s clear that it’s missing out on a lot of nuances that I would pick up on my more resolving kilobuck headphones (*cough* HD800 *cough*) or even my more “technical” IEMs. HD6XX was born out of a collaboration between DROP (previously Massdrop) and Sennheiser as a revision to Sennheiser’s highly acclaimed flagship of six years - HD650 (2003 to 2009). Some of us still want great-sounding headphones, wires or not, and we’re willing to spend a decent amount of money to get them. I’m also not comfortable mixing with these headphones, because the tonal accuracy isn’t quite there. The Music style I usually listen are classical music, Japanese Pop and female singers, such as Beyonce and Celine Dion. DROP also produces on demand and therefore in different batches, hopefully with the same quality control.

I personally prefer this sound over bassiness, so these headphones are a good fit for my life at home. jack rather than quarter-inch (with an included quarter-inch attachment), making these cans much more versatile to pair with all your many devices. That experience begins with a hefty black case of thick cardboard, layered with an ample bed of hard foam, and boasting a black-gloss Sennheiser logo on the lid. The open-back design perfectly distributes the sound waves, letting the instruments stretch out of those few inches from ear to ear and expand into a sonic cloud around your head. You will need to adjust the tension of each screw to ensure it has adequately threaded into the wood, but is not impeding on the cavity for the cable plug insert, otherwise the cable will either not insert at all or will be super tight. The headphones are comfortable and sound great straight out of the box, no equalization is needed here.

I told my friend who was playing Bloodhound to use his scan to show the enemy locations through the walls, and even though the enemy was in a tunnel connecting to the basement of the building I was standing on (AKA 2 levels down), I had managed to pinpoint their exact location around 50ft away. I've already said it in the teaser title, so let me preface the review by confirming that for all practical purposes, the HD 6XX is a Sennheiser HD 650. Fit wise, HD6XX is fairly comfortable because of large ear pads that go over the ear properly but the headband can have a stronger clamping force for people with bigger heads.

On the headband there is a foam padding, which prevents pressure pain as far as possible and allows wearing the headphones for a long time. It tightens up the bass response a LOT and also introduces a 3-4dB negative bass-shelf from 500hz and down. HD650 was regarded as one of the best headphones ever made back when it was Sennheiser’s flagship in the late 2000s and HD6XX still carries that legacy very well even today against the current competition.
