Description

A joyful celebration of the power of kindness from Rachel Bright, author of the bestselling The Lion Inside. Short rhyming verses occasionally use near rhyme but also include fun pairs like ripples and double-triples. Drawing on lyrics from her Mormon children’s hymn of the same title, Pearson explores diversity and acceptance in a more secular context. Addressing people of varying ages, races, origins, and abilities in forced rhymes that omit the original version’s references to Jesus, various speakers describe how they—unlike “some people”—will “show [their] love for” their fellow humans.

She explores the lovliness of words and the magic of pictures, revelling in a world of jam-eating miniature bears and other made-up animals.A fuchsia little Hugasaurus and her Pappysaur (both of whom resemble Triceratops) have never been apart before, but Hugasaurus happily heads off with lunchbox in hand and “wonder in her heart” to make new friends. This is another book I read to my class at placement, it was thoroughly enjoyed by myself, the other staff and the children. The child’s commands, confined in small dialogue balloons, are rhymed until her repentant “Come on home, Bot” breaks the pattern but leads to a more equitable division of labor at the end. Featuring cozy illustrations of brightly colored creatures, the tale sends a strong message about appropriate and inappropriate ways to resolve conflict, the final pages restating the lesson plainly in a refrain that could become a classroom motto.

It also talks about feelings of loneliness, being overwhelmed, sadness and nervousness as well as happiness and kindness. Im klassischen Stil erinnert Heldenreise findet der kleine Knuddelsaurus Freunde und sorgt für Frieden. Her written work includes children’s stories and poems, clever advertising copy and lots of other stuff besides. Due to it being relatable, the conversation prompted from the book, such as how we act in the playground or what we do if we begin to feel 'uncomfortable' feelings, can benefit the children's mental wellbeing.

Her illustrative work is a smorgasboard of giant, hand-printed poems, mind-bogglingly detailed gouache illustrations and a cacophony of quirky prints and etchings. Unfortunately, many speakers’ actions feel vague and rather patronizing even as they aim to include and reassure. It prompted some wonderful conversation about feelings and how we can manage our own feelings or help others manage theirs.
