It is clear, energetic and decent, the voice of a tweedy, no-nonsense colonial Britisher at ease with himself. Looking more closely, except for the novellas, A Study in Scarlet and The Valley of Fear, the unadapted, weaker episodes could be found in the last three volumes of the Holmes’ books.The Problem of Thor Bridge goes further and tells us that Watson's room has a view of the back yard. I have several Sherlock Holmes books on my shelf which include this illustration -- in languages I can't read.

For elements not found in the Strand Magazine illustrations I used reference photos of Victorian era items.Altogether, the famous deductive method, a deerstalker cap and an Inverness cape have become Holmes's unforgettable trademark. The secret doors and passages in The Adventure of the Mazarin Stone would have certainly tipped the scales. This collection goes from issue number 1-384 in a the first 64 bound volumes of the magazine, which is slightly more then half of all the issues published.
