Both sets also include a flyer with codes for Digital Copies of all four films, which can be redeemed through either VUDU or iTunes, giving owners access to 4K versions of the movies in Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio.

It’s packed with special features (although full disclosure, these are the same extras that were included on the 2012 Blu-ray set), and so if you’re thinking about adding Indiana Jones to your collection, the 4K set is a no-brainer. We use cookies to give you the best possible experience on our site, provide personalised content and advertising, analyse our traffic, and ensure you see more of what you love. There’s nothing more exciting than trying to keep up with the Joneses in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Sure, it may not be perfect, but it's a perfect showcase of outstanding remastering work for sure, leaving this undoubtedly the absolute best Temple of Doom will ever look. Specular highlights shower the action with a radiant, energetic appeal in the daylight exteriors, and the jewelry benefits from a narrow, beaming sparkle while fire torches and the smooth-polished stones enjoy a tight, crisp glow.

Raiders' quest for the Ark, made personal by the involvement of the estranged love of his life, Marion, is keenly but lovingly reframed here with the quest for the Grail, made personal by the involvement of his estranged father. Within a matter of minutes, we learn a great deal about Harrison Ford's most celebrated character and of the plot's major conflict involving the thieving Belloq (Paul Freeman). Of course, Raiders as a film is a timeless classic, and it’s kind of stunning how rewatchable it is. Part of the joy in watching these adventures is the escapist fun of hunting ancient artifacts with wildly mystical superstitions and supernatural powers, packed with the thrilling excitement that comes from that journey.

Starting with the first installment, each film is an homage to the classic Saturday matinee serials of a bygone Hollywood era. As opposed to its predecessor, The Temple of Doomgoes more for the frights and thrills than the typical action-adventure flick, yet Spielberg maintains that same high-spirited sense of excitement as before. The comedy is still great, and pretty sharp, from subtle touches like the name on the plane Indy escapes in, to the more outlandish stuff like the ludicrously over the top banquet which is just a succession of disgusting dishes served up culminating in. The fabulously exciting and surprisingly dark Temple of Doom is a veritable roller-coaster ride of a sequel. The story was littered with the usual plethora of thrilling stunt-driven setpieces, and frequently went deliriously over the top, but with CG came the curse of excess, and Spielberg appeared to just want to double-down in this respect.

And, after all, you can watch this on streaming (assuming you want to subscribe to Paramount+, which is where the film currently resides as of this posting).Although subtle and nuanced, specular highlights add a snappy, resplendent glow to the hottest spots, such as in the fire of torches making them appear more realistic or in the glistening luster of the golden surfaces of the temple or in the narrow, sparkling shimmer of the alien skulls, revealing the tiniest cracks and fractures within. All original sound elements were used to achieve the fully immersive Dolby Atmos® mixes while staying true to each film's original creative intent. Still, forgiving all that, it's an unsurprisingly very detailed image, which laps up the lines and wrinkles on Indy's face, revelling most in his textured, lived-in feel even if there's little of the same in some of the caricature villains. Of course, Williams' score not only holds it all together, but still remains the absolute headlining act on this track, defining it and giving it spirit, tension, excitement, danger and rip-roaring adventure throughout.
