About this deal

From backpacking South America to city breaks in Europe, a 3 month road trip across the USA in a self-converted van and 6 years living in Canada, you’ll find posts on all of this. You can adjust the blade angle, whether you want them to face the same direction or crooked a bit to suit your paddling style. The Intex Challenger K2 is versatile and can be used for many applications—just bear in mind that this cheap inflatable kayak will never match the performance and comfort of more expensive boats. As a short and wide kayak, Intex Challenger isn’t going to break any records, but it’s not designed to. Our favorite tandem is the Advanced Elements AdvancedFrame Convertible Tandem, but it will cost you a lot more.

With its tapered stern and bow, the minimal drag that the Challenger K2 has makes it very maneuverable. Like all inflatables, the Intex Explorer K2 is prone to getting blown around by the wind, especially for beginners. The added volume combined with the Sea Eagle 330’s more rugged PVC construction and covered bow and stern decks makes it a better choice if you’re looking to paddle moderate whitewater (up to class III with experienced paddlers). If you were able to leave yours more loosely folded and clean I don’t think they’d be as prone to holes.

With a low maximum inflation level, the Explorer K2 tends to feel a bit like sitting in a hot dog bun. While this makes the kayak one of the more comfortable options on the market, it does mean that smaller paddlers can find themselves struggling to reach the water or knocking their arms on the sides. Intex kayaks are ideal for paddlers or families who want a low-cost option to spend some time on the water. The more time you can spend on the water in a similar style of kayak, the better the purchasing decision you will make.

Beginner friendly: You don’t need any paddling experience to get out on calm, sheltered water in the Intex Challenger K2, whether you’re looking for a quick outing or an angler looking to try kayak fishing. Deflating this boat requires constant attention, as the floor, bow, stern, and seat valves are the type that requires you to hold them squeezed open to release the air. The large, open cockpit of the Intex Explorer K2 kayak is easy to enter and exit, and combined with the boat’s exceptional stability, makes this model ideal for first-time paddlers. Although not a racing kayak by any means, this little boat is fast enough to justify its name, the Explorer. If you have got some experience with inflatable kayaks, you will also notice that the material is not as thick as used for high-quality inflatables. A too high air pressure would damage the chambers and too low pressure would reduce the driving performance.
