Read all In the summer of 2016, Jeff Beck celebrated 50 years of his musical career with a special concert at the famous Hollywood Bowl. Gibbons for a rousing rendition of “Rough Boy” and a slightly comical version of “16 Tons,” written by Merle Travis and popularized by Tennessee Ernie Ford(“another day older and deeper in debt”). From there, the guitarist and his band — guitarist Carmen Vandenberg, bassist Rhonda Smith and drummer Jonathan Joseph — go back in time to the best of the Yardbirds.

ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons joins Beck for “Rough Boy,” and then singer Steven Tyler shows up for “Train Kept A Rollin’,” a song both the Yardbirds and Aerosmith famously covered. The encores, two of them, were another youthful bow to the classics: a nod to John Lennon with “A Day in the Life,” which Beck first recorded back in 2003, and a rousing homage to Prince, which had Hart wailing and Tyler taking a back seat for a change with singers Hall and Bones on “Purple Rain. But little did u know I would again years later see him in Concerts and leading up to his 50th Anniversary.

Beck set the stage ablaze with incredible live versions of “For Your Love”, “Beck’s Bolero”, “Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers”, “Big Block”, “Over Under Sideways Down”, “A Day In The Life”, “Blue Wind”, and more. For the 2014 tour, the musician whose genius for picking young talent first brought Rod Stewart to fame, will be accompanied by four brilliant musicians he brought together for the first time last year: bassist Rhonda Smith, guitarist Nic Meier, drummer Jonathan James and Lizzie Ball on violin. Singer Jimmy Hall, a frequent collaborator, comes up for quick and dirty blasts through “Over Under Sideways Down,” “Heart Full of Soul,” and “For Your Love. The night, the Blu-ray, the DVD and the CD all end with a spirited version of Prince’s “Purple Rain,” with Hart out in front and Tyler, Bones and Hall singing the backups. Some in the crowd perked up when Steven Tyler pranced out, and it was, as Spock used to say, only logical that he did a version of Tiny Bradshaw’s “Train Kept a-Rollin’,” a song covered by both the Yardbirds and Aerosmith. Blow by Blow did not enter the Gaon Album Chart, but it peaked at number 30 on the component overseas album chart in 2010.

Over the last few years he has performed alongside singers Kelly Clarkson and Joss Stone on the most-watched U.A triumphant 2009 brought many highlights including a sold-out world tour; Beck’s second induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; the release of the platinum-selling Performing This Week… Live at Ronnie Scott’s, which earned a Grammy nomination for “A Day In The Life”; and magnificent performances with his band at the 25th Anniversary Concert of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at Madison Square Garden. Thanks to Eagle Rock Entertainment, Beck’s Live At Hollywood Bowl is now on Blu-ray, DVD and CD so everyone can be part of a most unforgettable night. Beck, who is about to release a new album, will take his new band on the road for the Jeff Beck World Tour 2014 in April. Legendary rock guitarist Jeff Beck has had one of the least flashy yet most influential careers in rock history.

The constantly evolving Beck’s next move --- a power trio with bassist Tim Bogert and drummer Carmine Appice, which released “Beck, Bogert and Appice” (1973) --- once again shattered people’s preconceptions of what a rock guitarist was supposed to sound like. Beck-Ola did not enter the Gaon Album Chart, but it peaked at number 33 on the component overseas album chart in 2014.

Gibbons, Jan Hammer, Beth Hart, Jimmy Hall and Buddy Guy and concluded with an group encore of “Purple Rain” in honor of Prince. Beck famously replaced Eric Clapton as the Yardbirds’ lead guitarist in 1965 and later went on to form The Jeff Beck Group, which featured Rod Stewart on vocals and Ron Wood on bass. Beck has surrounded himself with a cast of young players—much like the great bluesmen, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters and, yes, Buddy Guy, have done.
