Those f*in papersleeves are loaded with so much static, you expect to get electrocuted when trying to get the record out for the first time. Japan-born singer and producer Joji is a multi-talented visionary, with a cult following from every corner of the inter- net. BALLADS 1 laid the bedrock for what’s to come – melancholic themes and soulful vocals, layered over lush yet grimy lo-fi textures. BALLADS 1 also represents Joji’s evolution as an artist since the release of his debut EP In Tongues in November 2017.

They didn't even use a proper media mailer and just stuck it inside a plain old box with barely any cushioning. In June 2023, following sold-out shows at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City and The Kia Forum in Los Angeles, Joji announced the PANDEMONIUM North American Tour which hits arenas this Fall. Mine also got in today in a plastic bag with bubble wrap, the sleeve (especially the back for whatever reason) is bent and creased beyond belief, the record also came warped, though luckily not too bad and is still playable just fine. I really love this album on vinyl, wasn’t so sure digital but for some reason it hits different on physical.

My first copy of this pressing was solid orange rather than translucent orange and covered in black marks and scratches. Maybe thats because that's a LoFi record and it's difficult to make a deep sound when you making that kind of music.

An Album that has heavy bass and well, when it comes to the album (If you're here I guess you like it, right?I mainly purchased this record because 1) I was a Filthy Frank fan, 2) the Clams Casino and Shlohmo-produced tracks, and 3) SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK DUUUHHHHH!

Not perfect in the quieter parts, but the basses sound awesome (most of the EP is bass-heavy anyway). SIDE Aof the album heralds a mature sonic direction for Joji through wistful and contemplative ballads accompanied by lush production that blooms within each song.but to be honest, I fell in love with it, my copy is almost dead silence and the sound is really good. One of the only times I heard a few popping sounds but it wasn't present throughout the whole track only in the very beginning and end. Starting with the first track "Attention", I have mid-fi speakers and the bass on this track was too heavy. It's pretty quiet, the packaging was nice as well; very happy they didn't use a plain, white sleeve for the record.
