About this deal

In this thrilling novel from bestselling author John Marrs, a young couple’s house hides terrible secrets—and not all of them are confined to the past. I won't give away much about the story, all I will say is get the book to the top of your reading list. I loved “The Good Samaritan” and I am always captivated by the Dystopian World which John Marrs has created (The One, The Passengers, and The Minders) so you can be sure that I will still be auto-requesting his next, despite not being quite as enamored with this story.

In fact, it’s soon to become the stuff of which nightmares are made when the young couple make a very gruesome discovery indeed. As Mia becomes further obsessed with the horrific crimes, she begins to find chilling secrets lying close to home. What Lies Between Us is still one of my go to recommendations in the genre, even now years after reading it.Throughout the novel were chapters from an unidentified psychotic individual, beginning in the present and working backwards – one year, three years, etc. The plot did seem to speed up for the second half of the book, but that still does not mean it was any better. A great read and I really recommend that people should just pick up his books without reading reviews as you really don't want to spoil the fun at all in any way. The TITLE gives us a clue of what to expect-this is a DYSFUNCTIONAL family drama as much as it is a psychological thriller, and, if you know me-dysfunctional families are not a favorite of mine!

Mia, who’s watching Finn from atop a ladder, takes a serious fall that leads to the premature birth of her baby, Sonny. Mia and Finns' plans of turning their new house into a dream home turns into a thing of nightmares when Mia discovers a horrifying message on a skirting board . Instead of writing a narrative that immerses the reader in the story so they're living the experience (and feeling all the feels too), this was written with the intent to just tell you what's happening as if you're an outsider looking in. If not you’re probably not really missing out on a must-read but I did enjoy this book, it just wasn’t one that left me feeling wowed to where I will be telling my fellow readers to go read it.

Marrs has ALWAYS been one of my favorites, but this one is nowhere near the high quality work that I’m used to getting from him. Mia and Finn are trying to get on the property ladder and are desperate to move out of Finn’s parents house. I'm tired and I ache and I want to protest but he knows exactly the right buttons to press no matter how shattered I feel. The villain, Debbie, also was poorly written and just seemed incapable of pulling off the actions attributed to her. There were some decent twists, but it didn’t help when everything was so farfetched and especially towards the end I just wanted to throw the book into a wall from frustration.
