The original dice was a beauty – a square-ish cardboard box painted thickly in bright colours with hand-painted numbers on each panel. We find that often the dice that accompany giant games such as giant snakes and ladders or giant ludo do not last. Fold into a cube shape, taping the inside of the box for extra sturdiness (it’s going to need to withstand a few bumps).

Quite a while ago my girls and I attended a community event in the park – Carols by Candle Light, run by one of our local churches. Available in 4 different sizes, the 30cm version of the dice are nice and big but not too expensive - great for parties and events. Another way of getting into the larger numbers is by having two 0 - 9 dice of different colours so that one will determine the tens numeral and the other the units. Just showing some 0 to 9 dice in place of the usual 1 to 6 dice can give the opportunity for you to ask some good open questions.
