About this deal

Damage From Larvae: The young crane fly larvae start to feed on the roots of grass, continuing throughout Winter and into Spring. Hot summers as a result of climate change are negatively impacting the number of crane flies, meaning many chicks starve. We covered an area with a dark groundsheet over a couple of nights but found nothing on the underside when it was lifted.

A mild, damp winter will bring leatherjackets closer to the surface and they will be able to keep feeding.I have a new build property and about two years ago I had beautiful premium quality turf laid it died a little last spring but I managed to revive it with grass seed and watering. Nemasys Leatherjacket Killer is incredibly effective and is 100% safe for children, cats, dogs, other pets and wildlife.

We follow a detailed, rigorous process to create content that is helpful, factually correct and meets the highest standard of integrity. Continue to try the black sheet method over different areas of the lawn and certainly look at applying a nematode treatment in the autumn as an organic control. Since Turf, Wildflower Turf, Sedum and topsoil can be heavy, and the pallet trolley pulled by the driver has small wheels, pallets cannot be delivered onto soil, grass or gravel – a tarmac or paved surface is required.Sometimes on warm humid nights, they come up to the surface to feed, cutting through plant stems at soil level and munching holes in the foliage. If you are dissatisfied in any way with their condition on arrival, please let us know within 14 days. I’ve had better results by acting quickly and taking preventative measures rather than waiting until an infestation is severe. Once they hatch, around two weeks later, the legless creatures begin to feed on grass roots and stem bases, devastating lawns and plants.

I’ve seen first-hand the damage leatherjackets can do to lawns; not only do they turn the grass brown but I’ve seen them completely kill it off too. If you want to sanitise the outside, have a completely alien environment where nothing grows, no birds, animals or insects visit, by all means go for artificial grass. Nematodes attack the pest by entering natural body openings, releasing bacteria that stop the pest from feeding, which quickly and safely kill it. The most effective solution is to either cover the whole lawn (or just the affected area) overnight with black plastic sheeting – this encourages the grubs to come to the surface so they can be brushed off and destroyed.Chafer grubs are white with a black head and from what I’ve seen, they usually curl up – read how to get rid of white lawn grubs here. I went from an ornamental carpet lawn to a mess in only a few months – my inexperience with them meant I did not treat them at all.
