She has no idea how to put together real stories, and from the start it's obvious this is all just one big PR game. It's actually weird how much I knew listening to this book and only having really caught bits and pieces of the show throughout the years. Despite occasional issues with the writing (and a warning that if you're squeamish that there are quite a lot of medical details as a lot we learn about the brain is from the results of damage and surgery) this is one of the best brain books I've read this year. At the open, Myron’s father is in the hospital in serious condition and Myron reflects back upon a lie he told his father many years before. Särskilt beskriver David Eagleman hur hjärnan har förmågan att tolka komplicerade signaler från sensoriska organ och av dessa ta till vara på den i stunden relevanta informationen.

It has a compelling, curiosity-based narrative and relies on a broad spectrum of neuroscience sub-domains. I didn't really know much about Kelly Ripa aside from watching a handful of episodes with her and Regis on Live, back in the day, so I don't think I'm the right audience here.Similarly, there's a bizarre reference many pages after telling us about Nelson's experience with his lost arm that out of the blue says 'Most visitor's to Admiral Nelson's statue in London's Trafalgar Square have probably not considered the distortion of the somatosensory cortex in the left hemisphere of that elevated head. Even though I rarely get to actually view "Live with Kelly," I've been aware of Ripa for years and have always been entertained by her quick wit and apparent frankness. I learned that her and Regis really had beef apparently and reconfirmed (again and again) that she’s deeply attracted to her husband.

I’ve always said my dream job would allow me to watch Live each morning then go in to work (I’m thriving on maternity leave). Some of the topics she touched upon were her early tabloid relationships, their infamous wedding elopement details, Botox or plastic surgery experiences, and finally their transition to empty nest parenthood. Kelly's disparaging "Regis comments" show that Kelly never learned that it's poor taste to discredit a mentor, especially when this mentor is dead and can't defend himself/herself. Even though I'm a self professed neuroscience nerd, I definitely believe this book could be enjoyed by those who dont have a scientific background or understanding.

Live Wire: Long-Winded Short Stories by Kelly Ripa | Goodreads

g. the brain as an information-maximizing machine; the basis of synesthesia; and the purpose of dreaming (hint: so you don't go blind). And there is no more accomplished and accessible guide than renowned neuroscientist David Eagleman to help us understand the nature and changing texture of that fabric. It's not that the idea of the brain as a self-patterning system that adapts and changes as inputs vary is new, but the sheer depth and speed of the phenomenon is only relatively recently understood and Eagleman gives us a very wide range of examples, from a young child who had half his brain removed, but developed normally, the remaining half taking on all the roles of the other, to the remarkably short term adaptations that enable us to cope with, for example, changes in lighting colour and intensity. And that's what I particularly appreciate about Eagleman's work: he provokes us to think about *both* the stuff we take for granted *and* the radical "adjacent possible".She is also consistently recognized by The Hollywood Reporter and has been named as part of its annual Women in Entertainment Power 100 list, as well as the publication’s 35 Most Powerful People in Media. If you said, "Well, the kid's going to lose his ability to walk, talk, do anything really," you'd be correct — but only for a few months. Fans will enjoy the change of focus and wonder how Coben will re-create his hero in his next adventure.
