Description

The book delivers a thrilling reading experience that keeps readers on the edge of their seats from beginning to end.

These are the only rules for Jules Larsen’s new job as an apartment sitter at the Bartholomew, one of Manhattan’s most high-profile and mysterious buildings. The pacing is tight, ensuring that the suspense never wavers, while the carefully plotted twists and turns add layers of intrigue and mystery. But as any horror reader will know, buildings this old and grand aren’t without their own histories. As Jules delves deeper into her role, she starts noticing peculiar occurrences and strange behavior from the building’s staff and residents. Jules must face the demons in the woodwork and in the world around her if she is to have any hope of a future.Sager brilliantly laces this psychological suspense novel with little suggestions of the otherworldly; could the Bartholomew be home to forces beyond Jules’ understanding?

With his newest novel, Lock Every Door, Riley Sager has written a very well-crafted thriller that’s beyond suspenseful! In this thrilling tale, the protagonist, Jules Larsen, finds herself caught in a web of mystery and danger when she takes a job as an apartment sitter in the enigmatic Bartholomew building. Sager’s exploration of themes such as isolation, trust, and survival adds depth to the tone, making it thought-provoking and intense. The residents wield their wealth and influence over the staff, leading to abuses of power and the exploitation of those in lower social positions. If you pack one book in your beach bag this summer, make it Riley Sager’s razor-sharp take on gothic suspense: LOCK EVERY DOOR, available July 2nd.It keeps readers guessing and on the edge of their seats as they try to unravel the secrets and uncover the truth behind the mysterious occurrences in the Bartholomew building. The rules are a bit strict, but our Jules is desperate for moolah and feels she’s got nothin to lose. While “Lock Every Door” incorporates elements of suspense and mystery, it is not primarily a horror novel. It’s a light, not to be taken too seriously, read, but having said that does deal with some serious topics that will see you repulsed that there are people who think like that. I'm always game for a countdown, and from the very first page we get a snippet of NOW, followed by a travel backwards in time to a week prior, and from there we are mostly catching back up to the NOW, with a few present tense moments sprinkled between days.

If you opt for this door lock type, it is strongly advised that you keep a key attached to a hook close to the inside of the door for emergencies. The book follows the story of Jules Larsen, a young woman struggling with personal and financial hardships in New York City. As she navigates the enigmatic hallways and encounters a cast of intriguing characters, Jules becomes a force to be reckoned with.

The author’s vivid descriptions and attention to detail help to establish a chilling and claustrophobic atmosphere that adds to the suspense of the story. She begins investigating the building’s history and uncovers a series of disappearances and unexplained deaths tied to Bartholomew. His first thriller, FINAL GIRLS, won the ITW Thriller Award for Best Hardcover Novel and has been published in more than thirty countries. Sager’s ability to build tension and maintain a sense of unease makes his writing style genuinely immersive and compelling.
