This mini paperback set is just the right size to fit in a bag and carry LOTR with you for a reread, and also includes The Hobbit. Matching leather-covered slipcase has author, title, and ‘50th Anniversary Edition’ designation on front cover and early JRRT drawing of Tower of Orthanc on rear cover. Tolkien signature, and publisher logo (back); front has circular die-cut hole to display Eye of Sauron from book’s front board.

p. 49: Omits the first line of Gandalf’s two-line quotation from the Ring-inscription– ‘One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them’– in Book I, Chapter 2 (‘The Shadow of the Past’). Instead of being released alongside the rest of the set, these boosters release on November 3, 2023.

In addition, there will be further releases during 2021 including a 4K UHD “Middle-earth” Ultimate Collectors’ Edition featuring the theatrical and extended versions of all six films, along with new bonus content, previously released Blu-ray discs of The Hobbit Trilogy and remastered Blu-ray discs of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. The Middle-earth Ultimate Collector’s Edition includes 31 Blu-ray discs’ worth of content, including 4K HDR versions of all six films, their theatrical cuts, and their extended editions. The Lord of the Rings has many, many editions, of which the 1954–5 first edition, 1965 authorised and revised Ballantine mass-market paperback edition, 1966 hardcover ‘Revised Edition’, 1994 reset edition, and 2004 reset and revised ‘50th Anniversary Edition’ (and its 2005, 2014, and 2020 revisions) seem to appear most often in bibliographic discussion.
