About this deal

Josh joined Amateur Photographer in 2021, and as Online Editor, is responsible for bringing great content to the site, as well as reviewing cameras, lenses, smartphones and more. The versatile 20 mm of focal distance (Equivalent to 40 mm on a 35 mm film camera) is suitable for wide variety of occasions from daily snapshots to the deliberately creative shots taking advantage of its beautiful soft focus. is an epic lens and going through my catalogue of images it was notable that a great deal of my most loved images were from that lens. In fact, unless you’re going to sit there pixel peeping (and it’s really dumb to do so when your clients are doing so) then that’s the only way that you’ll have a problem with this lens. Ever since the time of introduction, the LUMIX GH6 gained high attention and have been acclaimed after its release to the market not only from the conventional GH users but also from the new GH users worldwide.

For this discussion, at this time, we are talking about how good a lens is for the general photographer, not for just a super talented photographer. When [HDMI Recording Control] and/or [SDI Recording Control] is/are ON, Rec button is available even if the SD Card is not inserted. For this type of lens, I'd love to see the reviewer put this on a tripod and take a waist-up self portrait (during covid-19 or in the absence of a model) to see subject separation at people distances. As with most Micro Four Thirds lenses, it is devoid of controls–which otherwise need to be activated via the camera body’s switches, menus or buttons. I was looking for a small general lens, so I got the 14, only to be surprised the 12-32 was better in almost every way (I wasn't expecting a kit lens to be any good). Quality options corresponding to RAW video data output will be displayed when [Menu]>[Video]>[Image Format]>[HDMI RAW Data Output] is turned ON. The GH6 is planned to “evolve” with firmware updates to further enhance its performance and usability for professional video creators, as previously announced. aperture, and close focusing available, this lens is capable of producing high levels of bokeh, that is both smooth and pleasing to see.

It’s a great choice for those looking for a compact lens that can be used anywhere, and with a brighter aperture than most zoom lenses, it can be used in a variety of situations including in low-light photography, or for general shooting. As far as same amount of light, the sensor sensitivity does not change the amount of light it's getting. Also, with better resolution, high ISO performance, as well as amazing PP software nowadays, we can't assume that Mr Bresson wouldn't choose a 35mm f/1. is gaining a bit of a reputation for inconsistent AF (as in lens reporting focus but not being in focus an abnormally high percentage of the time). Pancake shaves a couple of millimeters off in each dimension), but it's unusually fast for such a compact design, letting in a stop and a half more light than the above-mentioned 17mm (or Olympus's Four Thirds-mount Zuiko Digital 25mm F2.

I had this lens twice and there was definitely a lot of difference in their performance - the second one was a lot better. It's very fast to focus, renders very nicely and the clutch-focus mechanism is useful for manual focus. With no optical image stabilisation (OIS) you’ll benefit by using this lens with a camera that has built-in in-body image stabilisation (IBIS). I was often feeling that it was a little bit too wide to isolate details that were farther away, or too narrow to capture some of the larger architectural features.

The FF photo will look darker at default settings, but when you lift it two stops in post it will be identical to the m43 photo, including noise levels and DOF. Sony has been leading cellphone CIS production and the next one is 1" that big Asia makers are all getting (Xiaomi, Huawei, Opp, etc). Completely different lens class and design, but I hate to duplicate focal lengths for primes if I can get away with it. Just like f/number iso cannot be compared across different sensor sizes because it's a per unit area quantity and has nothing to do with the signal of the image. How about giving it a break for a change, and hitting shutter speed with your reductive equivalence hammer instead?lens on Micro Four thirds, every single pixel will see the same amount of light because they both have equal aperture diameters. However, this system does have some advantages; it allows gearing of the focus action, such that turning the manual focus ring quickly makes very fast initial adjustments, but then turning it slowly allows very fine subsequent tweaking. after a joint venture with DXOMark then don't know what happened to their relationship, lens review has less technical data. I have no idea why I would want to lose control over the aperture or shutter speed, both are important to the image.

so yeah this will be about as good as it gets for the average M4/3 user that isn't springing for an f1.The focus shifting issue can be worked around by setting Constant Preview to ON in Panasonic models. It’s built and feels super solid with a metal exterior that works well with both the OMD EM5 and the GH4.
