About this deal

They’ve also undergone a few smart design tweaks, making them an attractive option for those seeking eye-catching, on-ear cans. Marshall has been pumping out a steady flow of quality audio products designed in the style of the brand's iconic amps, and its new Major III Bluetooth headphones are no exception.

Between 2020 and 2021, Marshall has released a spate of new products that include an ANC headphone, smart speaker, portable speaker, true wireless and now a new set of on-ears in the Major IV.

The new headphones are also significantly lighter and come with softer ear-pads to allow for a more comfortable long-term wear. Furthermore, the isolation is good for this design of headphones, so you can rest assured you won’t be annoying the people around you with your music taste. If you also experience this problem with on-ear headphones, we’d recommend opting for over-ear headphones, which are usually more comfy, surrounding your ears rather than being placed on top of them – or, for ultimate ear-breathability, try some in-ear headphones. Many of the headphones I’ve reviewed recently incorporate an auto-pause feature when they’re taken off your head or out of your ears. There are no built-in smarts but a double-tap on the control dial is meant to bring up the digital assistant on your mobile device (Alexa, Google, Siri etc). Unlike many Bluetooth headphones on the market today, Marshall offers an excellent combination of stylish design, exceptional performance, and affordability. Marshall major 3 wireless bluetooth headphones is re-engineered with a straight fit headband, slimmed down 3D hinges and rebuilt ear cushions. Bluetooth connectivity is good; pairing the Major III Voice with our smartphone was totally seamless, and we didn’t experience any dropouts, despite using them in a ‘high-traffic’ area with lots of other devices competing for connectivity.

We tried them in the office and could still easily hear people’s conversations, meaning you’d have to really blast your music if you wanted to drown out the outside world.

The clarity of the Major IV actually works well across a host of musical genres, although that narrow soundstage makes orchestral soundtracks feel less expansive. cable in favour of a Bluetooth connection, but the basic premise remains unchanged: on-ear headphones created to reflect the renowned guitar amp manufacturer’s heritage. They fare better with Wild Beasts’ All The King’s Men, in which baritone vocals sound rich and sonorous, while meandering bass lines underpin complicated drum fills and undulating guitar riffs.

Guitar riffs and screaming vocalists across TIDAL’s Hard Rock Classics and Punk Riot playlists hit all the right notes at around three-quarters volume, though I did find the prominence of the mid and high-range frequencies a little grating with volume maxed. The Bluetooth connection is strong in all scenarios and supports aptX for higher fidelity and lower latency streaming with modern Android smartphones. That being said, that overall warm tone is very forgiving, and it does make for an enjoyable listening experience. Outputting through their 40mm dynamic drivers, the mid-range is fairly crisp in tone, high notes are well defined and sharp, while bass is surprisingly big for an on-ear pair.

Although they sound amazing with rock music, you can still enjoy punchy bass, excellent separation, and clear vocals elsewhere too. Marshall estimates battery life to be around 30 hours, but your results will vary with your volume levels. Such guitars sound more pronounced through these headphones than rivals such as the AKG Y50BT or Urbanista Seattle Wireless. Playing a rock track, the Marshall headphones may place more emphasis on the texture of guitars, but the AKGs make the whole arrangement sound fuller, more involving and dynamic. It’s the reason I prefer the BT One’s more measured performance, although give the Marshalls higher quality tracks and some of the issues I’ve noted fall away.
