This suede trekking shoe is designed to provide all-day comfort and full-foot protection on your trekking outings. Unfortunately, a few other reviewers seem to question the breathability of this membrane so that you may get a little sweaty on scorching days. Merrell isn’t known for skimping on functionality, and there’s no disappointment to be had with the M Select GRIP outsoles plus 5mm lugs allowing for adventuring over demanding terrain. The M Select Dry membrane also keeps water out whilst allowing excess moisture to escape, although some users have questioned the breathability of this shoe.

Accidental bumps and humps from stone and boulders are also no issue with the sole’s front end shields that protect the toes. The materials used in Merrell Alverstone are slightly different than Moab 2 Ventilator and GORE-TEX. Of course, the traction on wet, rocky, and muddy terrain could be better and is not as good as the Alverstone, but it’s all-around a pretty dependable hiker. This added softness makes a big difference to the traction, improving our grip on hard, smooth surfaces in particular. Being comfortable on the trail is a dream with a lightweight design, little to no wear-in time and superb breathability.
