About this deal

The centre is doughy with a crispy outer chocolate shell and the small pieces of cookie make every bite delicious. Aside from the natural ingredients and comparatively high protein content of these bars, this is an ideal protein bar for people who need a snack that will fill them up, help cut cravings and make you feel full for longer.

Although it is generally better to avoid unnecessarily processed ingredients, it’s likely that your protein bar will contain a processed form of protein – but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. After working out, it’s what your body uses to build your muscles, so you want to make sure you’re only intaking the best. Unfortunately, due to its short (but sweet) all-natural ingredient list, it’s comparatively low in protein and high in fat (12g and 17g, respectively), which is why I’ve not placed it higher on this list. Although these sugar alcohols pack fewer calories than regular sugar, they should be avoided because they can cause gastrointestinal problems. So, if your idea of a healthy bar is one that contains as few highly processed ingredients as possible, then you may have to reconcile yourself to a higher proportion of sugar and carbohydrates. There’s a hint of hazelnut in there, but those dark chocolatey crunchy pieces exist inside this bar like all of the others. The alternative white chocolate, dark chocolate, or milk alternative chocolate coating is okay because it’s smooth, not too dense or overbearing.

The Shredder Bar is the brainchild of social media influencer and sustainable fitness entrepreneur Grace Beverley and her team at SHREDDY. On our quest to find a protein bar that actually tasted, well, nice – while also being healthy enough to serve as a filling post-workout boost (and not just a glorified chocolate bar) – we tested some of the biggest names in the market.

We can’t believe something this delicious has hardly any sugar in – so if you’re looking for a high protein option, this is truly a tough bar to beat. The sugar content might be higher – and protein content also lower – than some of the other protein bars on this list, but on our journey to find bars that actually tasted yum, this came up trumps. I’m always hunting for more protein but I would rather eat two of these if needed than 1 Clif Builder that has 290 cal/11 F/30 C/20 P and 17 (yes 17) grams of sugar. If you do require precise ingredient information you should consult the manufacturer, whose contact details will appear on the packaging or label. After trying a couple more times, the taste of cake does come through, but it’s again unique in a great way.

The little crispies add a nice texture and crunch akin to a candy bar, the filling, in most flavors, adds some much needed moisture (though of course there is not nearly as much as the pictures show) and the bar itself doesn't have that chewy, dense texture that most protein bars have. They only pack 10g of protein, but as they rightfully point out on the pack, that’s still 20 per cent of your daily protein intake. It’s a worthy protein top-up for someone who wants to hit their macronutrient intake (the ideal amount of protein, fat and carbohydrates for their weight and fitness goals) while keeping their sugar intake low. Banoffe: Second most anticipated flavor, and the flavor itself was great, not too artificial tasting and strong. If you have any health problems or questions regarding the suitability of any product please contact a health professional.

It’s easy to get wrapped up in the timing of consuming protein pre or post-workout, but the experts are in agreement that it doesn’t matter exactly when you eat it. And a lot comes down to the way we assemble our bars in three incredible layers: a crumbly base, a gooey centre and a rich chocolate topping. It seems like I’ve had nothing but negative things to say about these bars (hey, it’s my job to be honest around here) but Misfits knocked it out of the part with this one. And with only 209 calories, it’s hard to believe something that tastes this good classifies as a healthy snack. It was an earlier flavor I tried, so I really enjoyed the white chocolate, but it wasn’t very true to it’s name for me flavor wise.So if you’re looking for a bar that’s low in sugar (2g) and high in protein (17g) without compromising on taste, this should be your go-to.
