Horrifying in a compulsively readable way, Negative Space charts the erratic and disturbing movements of a group of teens living in a small New Hampshire town. The unique writing vivifies every incident and I don’t think there was a single scene from my first reading that I forgot, but everything on reread STILL took me by surprise and many of it hit even harder than last time. This list wouldn't be complete without mentioning perhaps the most famous use of negative space in a logo.

Tyler is a Virgil-like, shamanic figure that guides us deeper and deeper into the WHORL-abusing, self-hanging, 4chan-posting underworld of Kinsfiled, Massachusets. They each last a couple of pages before seemingly disappearing from the collective consciousness of Kinsfield.

It doesn't matter if you're into Stephen King, Octavia Butler, Jack Ketchum or Shirley Jackson, this is the place to share that love and discuss to your heart's content. Negative space varies around lower case letters, allowing the human eye to distinguish each word rapidly as one distinctive item, rather than having to parse out what the words are in a string of letters that all present the same overall profile as in all caps. At times, the way Leach pitches such bodily being, and its artistic incarnation, against the abstractions of critical intelligence (including her own) can seem slightly too schematic.And when they can’t make sense of it all anymore, there is nowhere else to go and nothing else to do. Negative Space recognizes the dystopia of America in the late teens (it's weird saying that) of the twenty-first century. While I eventually was able to appreciate what Amydalatropolis did, by reframing 4chan posts as literary art, and revealing the absolute barbarism which lies at the "heart of darkness" which is the free, wild web, and that Yeager is perhaps the first novelist to ever UNDERSTAND the Internet and express this in a text worth reading--I adore Negative Space, because it does something wildly different exploration of a wildly different phenomena. It is the basis of why upper and lower case typography always is more legible than the use of all capital letters. The bald head and long pointy nose are instantly identifiable as Danny Devito's Penguin, which in turn, carves out the bold silhouette of Michael Keaton as Batman.
