Again we’d point you to their Deluxe and even Super Deluxe editions where their prolific but high-quality output can be heard spread across 3-CDs/DVD in the latter case, including live sets at Manchester Apollo and Stirling Castle. This my friends is a clear proof to work when you are feel mellow and feel that you are seeking peace of mind in a wholesome structure and deeply rooted pathos together with multi fascetted realities in songs that last longer than all the smashing tunes in the beginning of this album. You can hear the small faces, kinks, traffic, fab 4 etc but the singer has a good voice and they can play all right.December saw the limited edition release of a double CD/DVD release of the band's Moseley Shoals gig at O2 Academy Birmingham, which was filmed on 26 February 2011. Comprised of various labels we know and love at Rough Trade (Bella Union, ATO, Speedy Wunderground, Phantasy, Heavenly, Mute and more) PIAS [Recordings] filter through some of the most diverse artistry to our racks, which we greatly enjoy digging into. On the back of these performances, Weller invited guitarist Steve Cradock to play on one of his singles, and vocalist Simon Fowler to sing on his album, Wild Wood. And a band from the Birmingham suburb of Moseley reached the top 10 with an album that combined cord-clad 60s nostalgia and northern soul influences with robust, melodic Britpop songcraft. Although obviously nothing like Cream, I could hear where my dad was coming from with Ocean Colour Scene.

They sprinkle Beatlesque and Stonesy flourishes throughout the album, as well as the odd prog rock flair, adding an even more eclectic flavor to their traditionalist pop/rock. Lead singles "The Riverboat" and "The Day We Caught the Train" are marginally the best of the bunch, and nicely epitomize the rockier side of the band. Now with a massively successful US tour opening for sweet soul darlings Thee Sacred Souls behind him, 2023 is sure to be a propitious year for Daptone's newest signee. It sounded so different from the other unexceptional, run of the mill, popular music doing the rounds on the British Top 40. On the upside, Simon Fowler had an instantly recognisable pop-soul voice, Steve Cradock does a solid Paul Weller impression (little wonder, given he’s been a longstanding member of Weller’s backing band), and Oscar Harrison keeps an economic beat. The real reason for its success, though, was simpler: it was an absolute gem of a record, by a brilliant group of musicians. With melodic songwriting and a quite muscular sound, everything here sounds so good compared to its respective immediate inspiration, it almost becomes a problem: Oh, like the Beatles – and good! A large factor in Ocean Colour Scene's appeal is the unique niche that they occupy within the Britpop movement. Yeah, they were another Britpop band, but these guys were getting a big promo-push through festival season.

the album in it self needs a few listens and I can admit that the album is juicy but a little difficult to digest for me for starters, as I see it. Anyone who has had the pleasure of seeing Jalen perform live knows that he is one of the most captivating performers on today's soul scene. If you're entirely new to Ocean Colour Scene, I'd suggest checking out those two tracks to see if the band's discography is worth checking out.

On 11 October 2010, the band released a 4-CD box set, 21, to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the band. I have a distinct preference for the psychedelic rock side of the Britpop movement, which means that Moseley Shoals is right up my alley. Listening to it now, it’s terribly dated, but given the retro-vibes it had when it was first released in 1996, that’s to be expected.

Retro-obsessed as the Britpop scene was, few acts were as obsessed with the 60s as this band, even to the point where they were one of the few bands from the scene to assimilate soul music influences into their sound. While I was listening to Moseley Shoals on the home stereo that evening, my dad popped into the living room, stopped dead in his tracks, looked at me and went “ Cream? Then there are the lyrics, which – thanks to frontman Simon Fowler’s writing method of improvising into a cassette player – can be cryptic, to say the least. Cradock was asked to play live with Weller on his tour, and the money Cradock made kept the band afloat during this time.Shoals is a good OCS album a few little hick ups but so what it is still not bad, but one from the modern as I see it is one of the best albums ever made and a super sliced portion of what was great on the Pop scene in the last years be for the new millenia. The Day We Caught the Train" reached number four in the charts, with "You've Got It Bad" and "The Circle" also reaching the top 10. From the moment I saw Ocean Colour Scene give an attention-grabbing performance of “The Day We Caught the Train” on Later With Jools Holland, I knew I was going to picking up their new album.
