Lots of these travelers are ditching traditional backpacks, and instead are traveling the world with suitcases, rollers, or duffel bags! Our expertise in designing backpacks that fit every shape, size and gender dates back to 1974, when Osprey was founded on designing custom packs for mountaineers headed to the Sierra. The Osprey Transporter carries on your back better than all other models we've reviewed, earning our Top Pick Award for the most comfortable carrying system among the best duffel bags. I put the Osprey Transporter 95 to the test during a long weekend to Coniston in the Lake District, in the North West of England, and didn’t mess around when it came to throwing into onto the floor, into and out of the car, and around the rooms of the YHA Coniston. The Transporter is versatile and can be used for anything from camping to climbing trips to backpacking around the world.

With multiple grab handles and a comfortable shoulder strap system, carrying the transporter is a pleasure. While we always appreciate extra storage pockets, this pocket's location can be a little hard to access when the duffel is fully loaded.

That said, it is perfectly adaptable for weekend breaks, holidays to even short haul backpacking trips. If you are a hiker or camper who likes to trek 9 miles into the woods to find a camping spot – look elsewhere.

The first thing I noticed is how incredibly rugged and durable all the materials are, from strong zips, water-resistant materials and tough handles which almost encourage you to throw the holdall around. We proudly stand behind this guarantee, so much so that it bears the signature of company founder and head designer, Mike Pfotenhauer. Its the quality of construction and ease of use that sets this duffel apart and makes it eminently practical. While it has some impressive backpack features, it does not provide the back and hip support that an authentic travel backpack does. This means that with the help of a small padlock, you can ensure that your most valuable goods are easily accessible and also safe. Also, if your gear is sharp (construction materials, camping gear, samurai sword, etc) you won’t have to worry about it poking through. This 95 litre capacity duffel provides oodles of storage space for longer adventures requiring more kit. The Transporter sits comfortably on your back distributing the weight evenly thanks to their contoured and well-padded shoulder straps. The seams are all internally reinforced with an extra layer of material making them more durable and preventing moisture from entering. A strong overall performer, a couple of nuances hold it back from the very top, such as a handful of buckles that must be released to access the main compartment, and an awkwardly-placed internal storage pocket that is somewhat difficult to access.

If you are simply looking for a great (and much smaller) 40-liter travel bag, look elsewhere (like the AER Travel Pack 3). This AllHold (AllHold = duffel bag + backpack) is one of the most durable backpacks we’ve ever seen and is going to be a dream bag for some people. An overlapping rain flap protects the zippered from the elements, and also includes an ID window to stash a business card or your contact info. The fabric itself is a mixture of 450D, 600D and 900D recycled polyester with a TPU coating for weather resistance.

As the leader in custom-fit backpacks, out pack-fitting technique ensures a properly fitting pack that maximizes efficiency, comfort and safety both on and off the trail. These awesome handles allow quick-grab access, so your bag is easily accessible and as ready to go as you are. This is not a knock on the Transporter 95, and this is not saying it can’t be used for travel (we’ll cover this in a minute). While the overall build isn't quite as robust and durable as others, travelers looking for the ultimate in carrying comfort should check out the Osprey Transporter. The Transporter’s main compartment isn’t flashy (there are a few features), it’s mostly just a big space to put all of your stuff. Constructed from 840-denier nylon, the Osprey Transporter is relatively robust compared to the rest of our overall lineup but falls short of some of the top-ranked expedition duffels with their 900 and 1000-denier builds. It comes with two adjustable internal compression straps that hold everything in place when you’re on the move. A zipped pocket on top of the main lid houses a backpack harness which allows you to carry the load comfortably through airports and train stations.
