About this deal

The collection has been “compiled by Paul Weller himself and Paul has provided artwork ideas and sketches for the design”. Very excited to announce that Paul has added a third and final show at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin due to phenomenal demand. Comprised of various labels we know and love at Rough Trade (Bella Union, ATO, Speedy Wunderground, Phantasy, Heavenly, Mute and more) PIAS [Recordings] filter through some of the most diverse artistry to our racks, which we greatly enjoy digging into.

but let’s go with the Push It Along: ramshackle, occasionally atonal, mad key changes and a massive hook. In May 2010, Weller was presented with the Ivor Novello Lifetime Achievement award, saying "I've enjoyed the last 33 years I've been writing songs and hopefully, with God's good grace, I'll do some more. The chorus is so terrific, it snuck a lyric as uncompromising as “the class war is real and not mythologised” into the Top 10. Joined by Rick Buckler on drums, and with Bruce Foxton soon replacing Waller on rhythm guitar, the four-piece band began to forge a local reputation, playing a mixture of Beatles covers and a number of compositions written by Weller and Brookes.Weller found himself heavily associated with the emerging Britpop movement that gave rise to such bands as Oasis, Pulp and Blur. Other songs he has nominated as favourites include the Beatles' " Tomorrow Never Knows" and " Strawberry Fields Forever", the Small Faces' " Tin Soldier", James Brown's " Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine", Declan O'Rourke's " Galileo (Someone Like You)", the Kinks' " Waterloo Sunset" and " Days", and Pharrell Williams' " Happy". We are excited to announce that we’ve been able to reschedule the cancelled shows from 2021 in Norwich, Lincoln and Cambridge, which will now take place in March this year.

Very excited to announce that Paul will be playing a one-off show in York at the Barbican on August 23rd. The video for These City Streets pays homage to the many thousands of lovers who have once walked and embraced on the same streets through time. In spite of the song's political content, it still picked up BBC Radio 1 airplay and was performed on Top of the Pops, which led to the incongruous sight of lyrics such as "We can't afford to let the government win / It means death to the trade unions" being mimed amid the show's flashing lights and party atmosphere. English Rose', taken from Paul Weller’s hotly-anticipated upcoming album “An Orchestrated Songbook”, recorded with the hugely talented BBC Symphony Orchestra and award-winning arranger Jules Buckley is out now! This December 16th Weller heads to Brighton for a rare collaboration with Robert Wyatt and Danny Thompson as part of a stellar lineup including Temples, Kathryn Williams, Stealing Sheep, The Farm and more at The Dome. Success in the charts also came from compilations: "Best Of" albums by the Jam and the Style Council charted, and in 1998 his own solo collection Modern Classics was a substantial success. When it was announced Paul Weller would be performing songs from his illustrious career with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, my immediate thought was, 'Obviously, that's gonna be great. In celebration of the opening of Third Man Records London on 25th September, Paul has joined a number of other artists to be involved in something pretty unique. This taste for stripped-down rock music led to Weller's music being dismissed as "dad-rock" by sections of the music press, most notably the NME, during the late 1990s, who cast Weller as a miserable, angry old man — a 1997 front cover of the paper titled an interview with Weller "Let's Get Ready to Grumble".

We're very happy to announce that on 8th April '22, Paul will be playing a show at Centaur in Cheltenham. Over 50,000 people applied for ticket to the BBC Radio 2 ‘In Concert’ performance when applications opened last month. Jazz became a major influence on Weller's work during the early Style Council years, and he has been a big fan ever since, citing artists such as Lee Morgan, Jimmy Smith, John Coltrane, Alice Coltrane, and Rahsaan Roland Kirk as favourites. In this first and definitive account spanning his entire songwriting career, Paul talks about his life and music through a personally curated selection of 120 songs. The link was eventually removed, because it seems as if the plan was to announce this on Weller’s birthday which was on Thursday, 25 May. We're very pleased to announce Weller is playing a special In Concert gig for BBC Radio 2 at The Radio Theatre next Thursday 14th May.
