Both can be set to auto (given you have an A-series lens or newer), which then brings the camera into Program mode. As long as the photographer understands how aperture impacts the final shot, the ME is a joy to use.

I wanted a Pentax body to use with my then 4 (now 6) Pentax m lenses so went looking for a suitable slr camera.Again, background elements are starting to come into focus at this point but subject separation remains clear. If I had to be picky, I'd say that the little LCD panels that display shutter speed and aperture in the viewfinder can be quite hard to read and the backlight that has to be activated manually is rather ineffectual. It’s hard for me to be objective about the Pentax ME Super because I’ve used and loved its predecessor, the Pentax ME, for years. Other SLRs I own, be they older manual focus (Nikon FE, Ricoh KR-10) or newer autofocus ( Minolta 400si, Nikon N8008), feel equally well suited to both manual and automatic shooting.

Frame counter has orange numbers at common film rolls like 12, 20, 24 and 36, although 12 and 20 exposure rolls are no longer available as of this review. The Canon AE1 gets all kinds of praise heaped on it when discussing entry level 35mm SLRs that offer auto and manual modes.

I’ve shot and tested a hell of a lot of Pentax ME Supers over time I’ve got to grips with this fantastic SLR, this has provided me with great insight on this compact king.
