Back in the film days I carried warming and cooling filters to change the “white balance” of the film when shooting in various lighting situations. Do yourself, your knowledge and experience, and other films a favour and pick some of those up to play with too. This recipe is only compatible with the latest Fujifilm X cameras: the X-Pro3, X100V, X-T4 and X-S10. Otherwise, just keep trying to get the custom white balance right by taking different measurements until you find one that looks good. It’s Vericolor II that brings us to the Portra era, with the VPL one first being replaced by a short-lived Ektacolor Pro Gold 100T film in 1998.

Portra 160 vs. 400 vs. 800: Here Are the Differences Kodak Portra 160 vs. 400 vs. 800: Here Are the Differences

I actually think that Portra 160 does a better job with indoor portraits where as Portra 400 is wonderful outside. Nailing down an exact Portra 400 look is tricky business because it depends on which version of Portra 400 film you are talking about, plus whether it was scanned (and which scanner) or printed (and which chemicals and paper). When you say “Rating at ISO 200 and metering for the shadows or midtones” it means in my camera I set the ISO to 200, but in the light meter I set it to 200 o 400? The film reproduces images with rich blacks and remarkable sharpness – you can see some of the demos in the sample photos below, or you’ve probably already seen it in the movies mentioned above! The yellow tints can sometimes be added as you push this film, but please don’t let this deter you from pushing this film!Kodak Portra 400 Overview: Kodak Portra 400 is an extremely versatile professional film available in 35mm and 120. Films such as Gold 200 and Ultramax 400, and even Fuji Superia – which are much cheaper – have kept me so happy with my photos for so long. I plan to use it solely for shooting outside when the weather is nice so bearing bright sunny skies in mind, is shooting Portra 160 a better option? Aside from the T-grain one, I have no idea what those things are and will definitely forget them once I’ve finished writing this. The modern version of Kodak Portra 400 was introduced in 2010 to replace the previous Natural Color (NC) and Vibrant Color (VC) versions, with a more balanced color profile, with an emphasis on producing natural skin tones.

At the same time Vericolor VPL was replaced by that Ektacolor tungsten film, Vericolor VPS was also being killed off to make way for the new Portra NC – or natural colour – films, which were available in 160 and 400 speeds. I’m a huge fan of average metering and use a small mirrorless camera as a light meter and exposure preview. However, regardless of what is popular and regardless of what great work other people can do with certain materials, every creative needs to know what is and what isn’t workin for them. Consistent and reliable performance: This film is known for its consistent and reliable performance, which means you can count on it to deliver stunning results every time. s tungsten balance will transform warm tones into cool tones, whereas Portra will accentuate those warm tones. Also, just to clarify, “pushing” Portra 400 means going *down* in ISO to 200, and not upwards to 800? Using Portra 400, I wanted to retain a bit more saturation for this landscape scene so I average metered the foreground at 320 and shot just like that. Really informative, I’ve never shot Portra but have always wanted to, I usually shoot Agfa Vista Plus 200 (mainly because I have a ton of the stuff in a drawer),but I think I’ll have to get hold of some of this and check it out. They do however give a suggestive ISO rating of 200-1600, which allows you to shoot in a multitude of light settings.
