About this deal

The strength and the beauty of this book is its resolute and joyful nod to queer history, the multiplicity of our stories and the ongoing, transformative process of our queer footprints which continue to add layers onto the city I was lucky enough to grow up in.

Glass: Love, power, fear, war, apartheid, peace, justice, freedom-fighting, education, emotions, Section 28, remembrance, amnesia, happiness, loneliness, AIDS, healthcare, abandonment, addiction, raves, ghosts, sex, friendship, creativity, local community building, global sex positive de-criminalisation, taking our purpose seriously as queers but not so seriously that we can’t laugh at ourselves. Fast forward: in 2004 ‘Pride in London’ was officially changed from a protest to a parade, instantly de-politicising its purpose, as if there is nothing left to fight for.LSE aims to ensure that people have equal access to these public events, but please contact the event's organiser as far as possible in advance if you have any access requirements, so that arrangements, where possible, can be made. Including an accessibility guide and a list of these gems for your pleasure - queer spaces, clubs, networks and resources galore. For lots of people in the book (the ones at the top of my head are Mark Ashton and Mike Jackson from LGSM) wit, satire and self-deprecation have always been a tool for survivors.

I wanted to include all the unfurling and unleashing that happened since then on the streets and raves and bedrooms across London, and also uncover icons throughout history and across the world who paved the way for the Gay Liberation Front. Join us for an evening of exploring the Hall-Carpenter Archives, a book reading with Dan Glass, and a panel discussion with key groups featured in the book including Gay Liberation Front (GLF), Switchboard, and more!He uses music, performance and protest to catalyse love, soul, revolution and justice in communities confronting injustice. It’s a pilgrimage to sacred spaces which have made us who we are, whether we’re talking about underground queer dance halls or the shebeens in Brixton or Ladbroke Grove, or places of defiance like early pride protests as well places of LGBTQIA+ plus hate crime attacks like in Tower Hamlets cemetery, police raids in the Caravan Club or [the bombing in] the Admiral Duncan. Dan Glass has several upcoming events as part of his book tour in London, Dublin, Berlin and Brussels. Radical and revolutionary… Queer Footprints will be used in the decades to come to guide queer youth and transform the conversation about trans issues. Q: Throughout the book you highlight solidarity between different movements and the intersectional nature of struggle, such as challenging racism faced by queer people of colour or the solidarity of Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM).

Bankhead, toQuentin-‘life-was-a-funny-thing-that-happened-to-me-on-the-way-to-the-grave’-Crisp; collective, queer defiance against fascism in the wake of the Admiral Duncan pub bombing; the Valentines Queer Carnival organised by OutRage! I was also aware that a lot of the people who I’m really inspired by are getting old and I wanted to record their stories.Every page is packed with inspiring, moving and downright hilarious secrets just itching to be uncovered, and with the riotously entertaining Dan Glass as your mincing tour guide, you’ll have an absolute blast as you do. Dan was recently awarded the ‘activist of the year’ at the ‘Sexual Freedom Awards 2017’ for contributions to sex-positive, queer, healthcare and human rights movements for social justice. I wanted to meet the people who started Pride, honour them and help continue their journey because there is still so much work to do.
